Am having a bit of a flare at mo, rheumy nurse says n... - NRAS
Am having a bit of a flare at mo, rheumy nurse says need a one off steroid injection to bring inflamation down, what is it and where????
Hi there, I think she will be talking about a depo kenolog injection that goes in the bum. I've had lots of these over the years varying in dose from 80mgs to 120mgs. I was in a lot of pain at end of May and had 80mgs and within a few days was feeling much more confortable. Don't worry, they don't hurt but rest afterwards to let the drug get into the system. I is usually given to stem a flare in my case. I also take MTX & Rituximab. Hope this helps & good luck.

Hi Sue
Thanks very much for the reassurance, feeling a bit of a pincushion lately and was dreading the thought of more needles! What a wuss eh. Taking MTX and trying to find a drug partner to it that suits me. Thanks.
Hydroxichlroraquine with MTX seems quite a good combination to me. Good luck with the steroid injection you'll be fine - many say it's like having a holiday once it works. Tilda x

Have it, I have them from time to time and they bring great relief. The sad part is we can only have them sparingly.
Thank you all so much you kind people. Have been trying to cope and hide things from the family since I was diagnosed last Feb, so now is the time the denial is catching up and as I'm pretty rough at the mo,I guess I need to come clean and tell folks what's happening.
Thanks again to all who care.
Hi..I have had one at the clinic and one at my house last week..don't feel a thing apart from the relief of the steroid. I am on MTX and Hydroxy at the moment as Sulphasalzine made me feel ill. Don't worry and take care xxx
Hi, recently had 3rd steroid injection in my rear end (mine have been very low dose, I think something like 40mg).. I've not found it hurts and even if it did the relief for me would out- weigh the relief. Think blood tests have sometimes hurt more and injection at the dentists. Just relax as much as you can. It obviously would hurt more if you tense the muscle.

Thanks for all your comments on the steroid injections, put my mind at ease you have. When I posted the question I was feeling very low, had had bad appt with locum GP and was proper fed up and feeling sorry for myself. Now I'm over that episode, I'm kinda looking forward to the relief I'm hoping for with the jab.
Again, thank you all for your kindness.
Hello, your comment about trying to cope and not telling people about your diagnosis really made me twitch. RA can be ok, and you can have a fine life with it, but my experience has been that you have to work with it not try to fight it or deny it. And friends and family are important in that. I spent ages trying to pretend that it wasn't happening, and then trying to convince myself that I was managing etc etc. Talk about pushing water uphill..... Anyway, to be brief, I'm now in a much better place and I put quite a bit of that down to having tried to work out how to fit RA into my life, but still have a life! All that energy you're using to cover things up can be put to much better use....... Take care, Polly
Hi Polly,
I've been pushing that much water uphill that I'm probably responsible for a higher tide!
Self denial, hide details from family, work and try and keep all balls in the air while adjusting to what's going on and 20mg of MTX a week! No wonder I'm worn out huh!
I guess I'm learning now though, hubby has own appt coming up with great rheumy nurse to tell him what I can't, and I'm going to accept some treatments that I've refused so far.
Just a stubborn, silly old woman I guess, but I'm learning.
Thanks for caring
