I have been receiving enbrel in England for RA for the last 8 years. If I move to Wales will I still get or is it rationed there more than in England?

Hi there,

The NICE guidance that governs what drugs are used and how covers England and Wales so it should be exactly the same, and certainly no worse. I would also hope that a sensible doctor wouldn't mess with something that had been working fine for 8 years! Polly

Hi,

Which part of Wales are you considering moving to?

Parts of rural Wales have very patchy cover by rheumatologists. I live in the South West and it's OK here but I know that Ceredigion (Cardigan) has very little cover and existing services are very stretched in all parts of the west.

I am sure that you would be able to stay on your current medication but I would encourage you to do a bit of research on hospitals, rheumatologists etc. before you move.

Having said all of that....it's a great place to live, we moved here ten years ago and we love it.

If you move anywhere near Pembrokeshire we have a really friendly and supportive NRAS group here... there is also one in Swansea.

All the best

I live in Llanelli, South Wales and have been on Enbrel for four years.

I can't imagine they would stop you having it if you move to Wales, They couldn't be so unkind!

Where are you thinking of moving to? Anywhere near me?

Thanks for your responses folks. I lived in near Fishguard for a short time and then in Powys. We are thinking of moving back to the border country, so I guess that would be Powys.

I'm sure that you'll be fine there!

Hi, I live in Powys and have no problems with meds at all. I've had Enbrel, Rtx and am now on Orencia. Powys have been very good agreeing for funding. My nearest rheumy hospital is just over the border an hour from where I live, an excellent orthopedic hospital, but Powys is quite a big county so its pbobably a good idea to do some research first as to where your nearest centre would be.It's a beautiful place to settle.
