I want to buy a new mattress, can anyone recommend? not too soft, not too hard but just right.Goldilocks :)
medium firm.. though not necessarily orthapedic.. I swear by myers beds
I have an othopedic mattress, plus i have a 6cm memory foam topper, and its fantastic for me, great support etc
I have a friend with scolosis she has a tempur memorary foam bed
MMM have heard of tempur memory foam, has anyone any matress links, I do not feel like shopping for such a thing, but I guess I have to.
I bought a memory foam one about a year ago (sorry I can't remeber the make) but I am very pleased with it. If you can afford it I would deffinately go for a memory foam one.
Hi Gina
Have to disagree with the memory foam. I slept in my friends memory foam bed on a 3 night visit (during a bad flare up) it was awful, I seemed to get stuck in positions, especially my knees.
I have a pocket sprung mattress (medium firm) from John Lewis. Cost £600, think 8 yrs ago ish, recently changed the frame & had to invest in a feather topper as the iron bed frame made the mattress firmer, the topper is a lovely addition. So it would seem that the wooden bed frame made the mattress softer.
Sorry I cant be more help than that. Good luck Goldilocks, as I know we can be very like the "Princess & the pea" with the wrong bed
Thanks Tia,
will be getting new mattress for the winter, looks like I will have to do a bit of physical research!!! Thanks for all comments. Think will be worth spending bit of money as I often spend a lot of time there!
go and lie on a few should make for an interseting day out... correct suport is when lying on your back you can just slide the finger tips. and part of palm part way into the the small of your back.. ie minute gap between lower spine small of back and mattress.. as previous comment but myers one was called posturepedic.. latest not got a name. they cushion sprung.. again like our illness all our backs are different... like the princess and pea comment x
Can just imagine lying on different beds, positioning fingers for correct support! Himself would be mortified! have small cushion under lower back in bed at moment, so can't face another winter of lower back ache!
I bought a Tempur Mattress over two years ago, and if it ever wears out, I will buy another. It is very expensive! I spent nearly two hours in the show room, with at least 10 minutes on different beds, and yes, felt like a real plonker.
I understand Tiasteph's review, as the bed really doesn't want to let you go. There is a knack that I have learnt for rolling over or getting off it. But once you have got used to it, it is Bliss. It is also very difficult to sit on the edge of the bed, as it moulds to you so quickly.
I aquired a partner a year ago, who is a very large heavy man (but far less now than he was when we met) and he wasn't sure that he would get used to it. He is now the first to say 'Ahh' when we come back to our bed after a short break.
So my opinion is that you 'must' really take your time to decide what is best for you. If you are going alone, take a book to read (it gives you something to look at while people are staring at you) and if you have a partner, try it out with both of you on it together. If you roll toward each other when it is brand new, it won;t get any better as the bed ages.
Good Luck on your quest

interesting, interesting MandyM, Glad you aquired a new man, thats always good news. My man is my old man and if he rolls towards me, I won't be buying! Haha! Thanks for all the advice. am taking it all on board so to speak - tempur is front runner!
