I had the same problem's, so i contacted one of those bed advert company and got the shock of my life, they wanted over £800, on your bike I thought, so I went to my local bed centre, told them my problems after a talk and parting with £350 I got my mattress and I have not looked back this has been over 4 years ago, my sleep pattern has been good. Good luck
My physio recommended that I do various stretches for my back pain, especially before getting in to bed. They work well and let me sleep. And I really notice if I forget to do them for more than a day!
Hi helix helixI tried memory foam years ago and it made me so ill there’s something in it that didn’t agree with me I had terrible headaches and felt sick I met someone whilst I was in hospital and she told me her sister had memory foam pillows and was exactly the same symptoms as me Anyway I got rid of it and it was definitely the memory foam I remember reading an article about and it explained it I can’t remember what it was now I’m going back 20 years but needless to say I take nothing to do with memory foamI know some people swear by it but not for me x
I bought a Simba mattress nearly 4 years ago. Very VERY comfortable. It came with a protective cover at the time but thats too warm in the good weather as it seems to restrict airflow. Comes with a 100 day trial too that I believe is honoured with no questions asked. I chose this over some of the others available purely because John Lewis sell them, and that's good enough assurance for me!
I got a Simba mattress too and it was definitely worth the money, it really helped with the pain. They have a 200 night trial so if you are not happy they will just take it away or exchange very easily. I have recommended to a few friends who were very happy too.
No real advice about mattresses that isn’t already here but I would agree with Helixhelix about stretching exercises. There is a very good website you could look at. I’ve been trying to copy the link for you to no avail. If you type in NHS back stretches and choose the back pain - treatment- NHS website, you’ll find a great video amongst lots of helpful information. It isn’t a miracle five minute cure. I find if I do this sequence of exercises two or three times a day, (for a few days) my back really loosens up, strengthens and realigns. I’d be really interested to know if you try it and how you get on. Obviously don’t push yourself into a painful situation. Only go as far as is comfortable. I don’t know your fitness/strength level or what causes your pain.
If your not needing a new mattress at the moment I would try a mattress topper they do all different types and not so expensive, I've got one and it certainly helps 💕
I tried orthopaedic mattress then had memory foam topper on.was better but made me so hot.when we moved we bought a soft mattress.after 6 months of pain now on med/firm and still struggle with pain.I just toss and turn trying to get away from pain.ibroprofen gel rubbed in only works for so long.can’t afford any more mattresses .last one is propped up in spare room.Wish you a pain free sleep
I’m on my 3rd mattress in 9 years and looking for a 4th. None were cheap at all, one of them cost me a grand! But after a couple of years I just find them do uncomfortable once they ‘settle’. We turn them constantly to try to stop this but nothing works. Im Now thinking of getting twin beds fir me and hubby because when he moves it just kills my back sometimes when it’s bad. I hate mattresses :((
Memory foam works well for me , i have a mattress in it but you can get toppers as well. As a general rule i was told that rthe higher your bmi , the firmer it should be x
Mattresses are so individual that I would not go and buy one on a recommendation from someone here unless you could get your money back if it wasn’t ok for you. I can’t even bring myself to change mine, even though it’s old, because I have no idea how to find one that will work for my lower back and neck/shoulder problems. I’m another one who finds that memory foam leaves me in pain the next day so that’s out. I hope you find one that helps.
My brother has had discs removed from his back about 25 years ago. He suffers terrible still. The doctor says his spine is ‘in a right state’. After another dreadful night of back pain and 2 hours sleep I asked him this morning what mattress he uses. It’s a Relon Ultimate Ortho Support 1500. He says it’s very firm but he sleeps great on it. The best mattress he’s ever had he says. He’s had it 2 years and it’s still like new, no sagging where he sleeps and he’s a big man. His wife is tiny and she sleeps very well too. So I’ve bit the bullet and ordered one. He said it takes a few nights to get used to it but I think that goes for most mattresses. Hopefully mine comes tomorrow. It wasn’t cheep but I’ll try anything! I’ll update you with how I get on with it. X
Well...had it a week now. I have never slept better for a long time! Not taken pain killers for 4 nights now. It’s very firm but so comfortable. I don’t wake up in the night with back pain anymore, yes I still get back ache in the morning but a couple of stretches sorts it out. I’m so glad I asked my brother! So far it’s worked for me. X
Oh that brilliant, so pleased for you , it’s hard isn’t it spending a lot of money , then if you don’t like it you regret it . I’ll have a look at that one , thank you for your reply X
