Hi, I have been waiting for diagnosis and treatment since Dec 11. I have now been diagnosed with RA, started steroids 4 weeks ago and I am waiting to start methotrexate. I have noticed that I have started to bruise easily. Is this normal?? I am currently not having any blood tests.
Is bruising normal?: Hi, I have been waiting for... - NRAS
Is bruising normal?
steroids and mtx can both increase bruising, mtx should have blood tests at least fortnightly and it would be good practice to get baseline bloods prior to mtx being started x
Hi Noirin, i'm on steroids and bruise easily, had to come of methotrexate as it was badly affecting my kidneys (I have Addisons Disease and Adult onset Stills Disease), some times it looks like I've done 10 rounds with Mike Tyson, they don't look nice but the're not painful. Take care Ann x
Hi Noirin, a few weeks ago, my thighs were black and blue, don't know what caused it, but it seems to have settled down now.
I have been having acupuncture for the last couple of weeks, and I have bruises in the places that she inserted the needles, but not anywhere else on my body. I would mention it when you see your doc next.

Hi Noirin
Steroids cause me to bruise, if I scratch myself in bed at night whilst I am sleep, I find the bruised tramlines on me in the morning. If I bump into anything I get a bruise. I think steroids cause the skin to thin.
Oral steroids are little wonders, but there is always a price to pay!
