Short term Memory Lose....

...the weight lose I can deal with, but not my memory lose. Not sure why but the last couple of months my short term memory has been terrible. My husband thinks it might be due to tiredness, but i was wondering if anyone else suffers from this; I was wondering if it might be a side effect of MTX? It's getting silly I've got little notes to myself all over the house, I've just written one to myself to remind myself to pick my son up from school tomorrow ( I share with a friend) Please someone tell me I'm not losing the plot!

Your not losing the plot Mel it seems to be something that affects a lot of us. I'm always leaving notes for myself I was never like it before RA so its either my age or like you say the fatigue.

I think it is to do with the fatigue and with me I think it's to do with the fact I don't work or get out much so my brain isn't as active as it once was. All that seems to be going on in my little brain is RA,hospitals, medications etc!

Take care Mel.

Mel,

Maybe, its a hormonal thing, or it could be you have a lot on your mind, when my kids were young I used to have a calandar with everything on it school runs and sports, I once even forgot a little one had a half day! If you mean the going upstairs and then forgetting what you came up for, that happens a lot of people. Thinking you must tell someone something and then when you see them can't think what it was! If you really want to test your memory get a pal or a friend to name 10 or 5 random objects then continue on make a cuppa watch a programme and then ask them to ask you to list as many as you can say after 20 minutes, I think if you can remember half you are probably OK. If your worried check with your doctor for your own peace of mind, worrying about things like this is not good. You are probably a busy person, struggling with family, husband, house, life, and coming to terms with RA, I doubt you are losing the plot. :) If you are well so am I. Haha.

xxx Gina.

Not sure what it is, but your not alone I am terible, my GP knows me well for it when I go in he always joke's well can you remeber what you came for! lol and then I normally get my notepad out and tell him lol

Dont know if for me its the RA, the mthx or the fibro!

Brain fog is a recognised 'symptom' of Fibromyalgia and fatigue associated chronic diseases also presents in the same way. I have difficulty with words - either retrieving the word that I want or the words that come out aren't what I think I've said, rather some form of gibberish with random words!

I also need to write things down and make lists, only to then leave the list at home - doh!

I'm totally the same Mel, my short term memory is so BAD! I have to write everything down else it's in one ear and out the other. I've forgotten to turn the gas cooker off, have left freezer door open, phoned up people and forgotten why or had to leave a message which ends up as a rambling mess of ah's and um's, gone upstairs and forgotten what I've gone for, head out the door without stuff and have to go back for it (if I can be bothered)...all annoying little things that add up to a huge ball of "I'm rubbish at remembering"!

I think the meds, age, family life, motherhood, hormones, fatigue, stress, worry...they all contribute, the list is endless - just like the one on the fridge, my hand, my diary, that piece of paper in my pocket...

It's a good job my kids are on the ball!! xx

yep.. its a problem for me too !! x

I buttered a crumpet for super I put the knife in the fridge and I was just about to put the butter in the bowl of hot water when I realised.

Gabapentin and Statins can sometimes be responsible for short term memory loss, I was taking both these at one spell and my mind worse than a sieve, gave them up very quickly lol things have got a bit better since, fibromyalgia can also be responsible , if you have it that is. it can be scary but please dont think your losing the plot, your not. hey that rymes lol

Methotrexate may cause 'brain fog' and if you 'Google' it you will find it is something that comes with the territory. When I stopped MTX last year the 'fog' lifted, now I'm back on it so am expecting its return any day now!

The joys ;)

That's really interesting, thank you. Not much I can do about it though; main thing is that at the momoment MTX seems to be doing its job, seems that you sacrifice one thing for the other!
