My little star has gone out.

Had to take my cat to the vet this afternoon, as I thought he was crying with constipation. He had a tumour in his bladder & his body had filled with sacks of fluid and his organs had failed. Vet put him to sleep at 4pm; I'm tearing myself apart: loved him so much. I am devastated, can't stop crying.

Oh Andrea I am so very sorry. I am absolutely dreading when I will have to go through the same myself. I know going to be wrecked. He must of been in alot of pain if he was crying and we have to believe the vets know when this time is right for our little furrie friends.

I really really love my dog and cats and if Im honest sometimes think i prefer them to people. It is such a painful part of life that you have to go through the pain of losing what you love. Think about how much love you gave him and what a good life he had with you xxxxxxxxxxxx fiona

Those of us who have lost pets know exactly how you are feeling as we have all been there ourselves. They give us so much love and ask little back in return. Big hugs to you.

As I am typing this our new little rescue dog (of about 10 weeks) has come upstairs and is laying by the side of me on the bed. It took us 7 years after the loss of our previous dog to get another one. We have said throughout those years that we couldn't go through the loss again and really can't say why we suddenly changed our minds. We just did. And we are so glad that we did change our minds.

Once again, big hugs to you xxxx

Oh no, it's such an upsetting time for you, sending you big gentle hugs xx

Hello Andrea,

I am so sorry to hear of your very sad loss. Our pets become part of our every day being and when we lose them the sense of loss is overwhelming.

It is natural to feel the way you do at the moment and my heart goes out to you. Do try to focus on the happy times you have shared although I know right now this is hard to do.

Thinking of you,

Lyn x

So sorry. We were devastated when we had to say goodbye to our cat, Stalker. We cried more than when our mothers died. I think its raw and very direct and physical, our relationship with animals. Especially special ones who we share our lives with. Give yourself a big hug, - so sad

Oh Andrea. I know exactly how you are feeling. I am afraid I can only tell you that time will heal and I know you don't believe that right now but it will. I lost my best friend Boris on 11 Aug 2008 and I still miss him terribly and have pictures of him all over the house but I can look at the pictures now without crying. I had him for 14 years and he was as much part of the family as my husband and my sons and they felt the same. If Boris was on a chair asleep even my husband or boys would sit on the floor rather than disturb him. He meant the world to us all. I have his ashes next to my bed and when I go he is coming with me. I have always had cats but I will never have another now because Boris was extra special. That decision has been taken out of my hands really anyway because my son has got a Jack Russell now and we babysit regularly. He was a rescued working dog so Dylan and cats don't go together. I wish I could come and give you a big hug but will have to send one down the line instead.

I do hope you can come to terms with your loss soon. Thinking of you

Hi Andrea, I'm so sorry its awful to lose our much loved pets as they are such a big part of our family life. Having spent many years at home with RA my pets 2 dogs and 1 cat are my best companions, I find myself talking to them all day as I would humans.I don't now where I would be without them.Unfortunately though just last year I had to have one of my German Shepherds put to sleep and it was such a heart wrenching time.

You have to remember you gave your cat a good life and did the best thing for him to ease his pain.

Thinking of you.

Mandy xx

I am so sorry Andrea that you have lost your little cat. I have never had a cat but i have a little yorkie and i would be devastated if anything happened to her . She is having an op next week to have a lump taken off her back. They think its just a cyst or similar and she is having her teeth cleaned. I will be worried till shes home. My thoughts are with you , every pet is very special.

So sorry to hear about your cat Andrea. We all get attached to our pets. It is heart wrenching when they leave us. I lost my ole doggie two christmases ago (we got her at Christmas too!) and it was the most awful thing because she was with me 24/7 on the odd occasion I left her when I went away for a couple of days she used to sulk! You remember the good times and the fact that she had a happy life with you. Take care

very sorry to hear of your loss I am cat person. it was the kindest thing to do '

I had to take my beloved long furred suki(no1) to vets to be put to sleep she was fading fast before i got there though she was still purring I wrapped her in a blanket and held her.. was going out with a postie at the time and he came and took us both to the vets.. I was in retail pharmacy at the time and had a cry down the back of the pharmacy out of sight.. they are part of the family especially if you live on your own!.

time went by and I wanted another cat so went to the local animal rescue centre and was vetted for a cat.. a black cat.. rubbed itself round my legs. oh molly likes you so after being inspected and doing paper work she became mine!! they warned me she bit !!. got home on the phone to mum .. yow she bit me.. now three and a half years later she is better .. but not that affectionate..

when diagnosed 2. years ago or so v poorly

!depressed and in pain.. wanted company saw kittens for sale .. found some near by for £20.. got a bundle of black and white joy (suki 2).. she made molly more sociable.. Nearly lost little suki june last year she got run over had crawled into neighbours garden broken pelvis in 2 places. was on cat morphine!! and hospitalised had to have three months cage rest my mum cried when she saw her at the vets but she pulled through.. massive vet bill.. but have insurance now runs jumps her gait is a bit wierd but she is happy and not in pain she is such a darling

So sorry to hear about your beloved cat Andrea, but you loved her, and did the kindest thing. I love dogs & cats and all animals, they love you so unconditionally. Hope you feel better soon. x

To have a friend that offers such unconditional love as that of a dog or cat is such a comfort to anyone with a heart. They become your best friends and always seem to know when something is wrong, you can tell them things that you can't to other or just sit and have a good cry with them when things get to much. I know how you feel I still miss my two dogs that I grew up with, they truly were my best friends and I think about them all the time. You gave your cat a wonderful life I'm sure, please don't think of it as 'a little star going out' think of it as 'a star getting a bit brighter' and remember him when you look at the sky tonight.

Oh I am so sorry for your loss. A cat or a dog give so much love unconditional and unquestioning. Be comforted that he is not suffering anymore. You did the right thing you had no choice. He will always be with you in your heart and your memory. Hope you feel a little better day by day. Thinking of your.Sharon
