Has you may know from my previous blogs, I was made redundant at the end of Jan and been put on ESA at the job centre. I have worked all mu life and had RA since 97. At the age of 61 I don't think I want to go back to work, this may sound as if I am lazy but my RA is a lot better not having to get up early and go to work, if the right job came along I suppose I would take it. Anyway they guys at the job centre have asked me to have a medical after filling in a form with the usual questions like how far can you walk and you go out on your own, can you dress yourself etc. I filled it in and sent it back. Then got this letter to have a medical in the next town 10 miles away. I said in the form I can use the bus because I can't get up the step or out of the seats by myself I would need someone with me and I can't walk very far before I am out of breath and in pain. So with the letter they sent me directions to the place I need to go. It starts with a 16 min walk to my nearest bus stop, yes you hear it right. This would take me a go 45 mins. Then when I get to the town I have to change to another bus. Then walk to another bus stop after that, then a 15 minute walk to the centre. They are having a laugh, who are these people. To top it all I have a small loan from my bank which I have only 18 months to pay it was to have a shower filled because I could get into the bath. Because I am now unemployed I can't pay it, I have insurance, I haven't cashed in my PPIs like most people, so I have been in contact to claim of the insurance to help me pay some of the loan off. I think I can claim 12 months, any they are going out of their way to not to pay. I must be seen to be getting a job so they can stop paying, they want letter from my ex employer about sick days I had off when at work, you name it. It has been going on since I packed up work. Still had a great weekend with one of my sons in the caravan and a great birthday party for them both the other day, the sun is shining. I'll let you know how I get on at the medical, you never know you might see me in the London marathon on Sunday, I'll be the one with a big arrow coming out of my head, saying YOU WON'T BELIEVE IT
I don't believe it.: Has you may know from my previous... - NRAS
I don't believe it.
bless you.i went for one of those medicals after telling them like you did etc i got a taxi and claimed all the money back it took ia couple of weeks but they did pay it back so try that hope it all goes well x
I would tell them that you can't walk that far. Jobsworth, they think if you can get there they will turn you down. So inform them that you can't get there and then they will have to help you with better transport. Like previous comment has said get a taxi.
I hope you are successful.
sylvi, xx
That's a bit silly! You should get your sons to carry you to the medical on a stretcher to make the point that you can't manage! But seriously, can't your GP send something in about your medical condition instead of having to go - or isn't that allowed?
I'm so angry when I read things like that. I was able to retire at 61 and it was the best thing I ever did. Surely your difficulties in getting there are proof enough if needed that you aren't fit for work? Can't add anything useful to the excellent advice above

They sent a doctor to my home in Kent.she arrived on a bike and said very little just questions good luck
I forgot to say she mixed the forms up and I got someone who had a strokes assessment so had to start again all fun
