Swollen fingers.

Hi,I've been under a bit of stress this month, and I started to feel pain in the first two fingers of my right hand last Friday.

The following day those two fingers swelled up, but the pain wasn't too bad.

I went back to work on Monday, but have had to take today and yesterday off due to fatigue. The fingers are still swollen.

Apart from rest, pain relief as necessary, and avoidance of stress, is there anything anyone can suggest which might be of help in reducing the swelling?

Many thanks 😊

That is annoying! I can only suggest gently exercising your fingers in warm water, taking anti inflammatory meds and keeping your hands on cushions or pillows to raise them above your heart to encourage the fluids to drain away. Also massaging your hands if you have anyone to do that or use a portable massager that you can do yourself. Some people have certain foods that can cause swellings so maybe eat less pro inflammatory foods like processed foods

I find hot then cold water can help a bit. Also gently moving the fingers, despite it being painful if I keep gently moving my fingers the swelling gradually decreases a bit. Bending, circling, clenching a fist(or as near as you can). Good luck

I have the same thing - in two fingers! The pain was so severe yesterday. The tips are what I can only describe as bulbous! I usually have to take steroids when they flare. Yesterday I got relief from pain killers, heat pads and anti inflammatory gel.

Be sure to tell your rheumy, sounds like a flare and you need more/different meds. The meds can stop working like they did. I've had a steroid jab or steroids tablets to help while they add/alter my meds when this has happened. If it's not too bad I try my compression gloves, with voltarol on them and rest my hands and body. Hope you get sorted.
