My pain started on my left side but soon moved to both side. I was diagnosed 20 years and I still have pain all the time.

Hi Helenw7

Sorry to read that, is it low level pain as I am in the middle of a flare up and its agony at the moment until the sulfasalazine kicks in ( 8-12 weeks ) and I am on my 4th week 😳

Some of my joints, elbows, wrists and hands are low level pain today but my fingers and shoulders are very painful, and have been for a while. I’ve had ultrasounds of my hands and left shoulder and they’re badly damaged. I’m waiting for a a nerve block in my shoulder. Not every day is the same. I also have osteoarthritis but I’m not sure which type of pain is which. Yesterday my right hip joined the party!

You poor thingHow do you keep positive , is it because some days you feel better than others ?

I think so. I’ve always been a very positive person, but I have a lot of health issues and big problems with my mobility, so staying positive isn’t always easy.

Your a legend helen as people try to be empathetic but unless you have that pain people cannot know how difficult it is for youAll the best going forward

I agree with you about people not understanding your pain unless they also suffer pain. I have been living with my daughter since July 2023, while my house is being modified. She now appreciates my bad days when it takes an hour before my fingers loosen up enough and then I have to get out of bed. My daughter injured her back last week, and she now’s knows what pain is like!

Hi Shy

many factors are going on in your life that effects pain. Maybe one side is more dominant and used more or some other accident effects 1 side and not the other or it could be posture related. I never realised I placed most of my weight on the same side until I learnt more about posture and became more self aware. The disease sometimes attacks one side first even though RA is fairly symetrical so there's many reasons. Try and become as ambidextrous as possible!

Thank zen4Yes you could be onto something posture related I might have a look at th Alexandra technique ,

What did you do posture wise to address it for you ?

Kind regards

I learnt all about correct posture from my OT but not sure if you would be able to get a referral to see one at.present? Alexandre technique is also good but you would probably have to pay privately for that. There's a lot of info to go into for posture, too much for this forum

note my diagnosis is Adult onset Stills disease. Lots more info in my bio.

Yes my pain has always been worse on the right side and in over 40 years that’s not changed and it’s still worse in that side. Over those years the pain has spread of course but the joints that were most affected at onset always hurt more that the others. Weird isn’t it.

Hi Stills

you can Google it . It’s treated the same but it can effect tendons as well as joints

I either get it down one side or the other, predominately my right side

Thank you Jfw24The symptoms seem very random.

RA is very random, it turns up (for me) in one joint for a few days and then travels to another and stays there for a few days before moving on

Shyandretiring profile image
Shyandretiring in reply toJfw24

I know there is no pattern to it so you never know what you have done either rightly or wrongly to influence it either way.
