Hand joints

Hi all. Really painful little joint between wrist and hand. It seems the DAS score is based on just a few joints ie knuckles but I don’t know about anyone else but all sorts of tiny joints get inflamed and hurt. Is that the same for you? Thanks

There are 12 hand joints used in DAS...... however not that one! But your DAS score is only one aspect of the way that your rheumy will monitor your progress. They should still be interested in other joints that are affected.

Well Elmo my hands are like boxing 🥊 and swollen around knuckles,it's them and feet I get most bother with xxx

I put plastic zippy bags on mine with ice and kitchen roll then zip it stop the melting going everywhere it does help pain and can reuse

My DAS score came out at 6.05 last week but I'm not on proper meds due to my deranged liver levels, hopefully though I'll be going ahead with a Truxima infusion soon. The thing that annoys me is the RA in my feet, that always seems to get ignored and it's not counted on the DAS scores 😔

Mine sometimes turn into bunches of bananas. My worst joint is my right wrist bone. Sticks out like a sore thumb. Er - no, that can't be right!!

I get lots of pain in my wrists too and they were badly swollen before I started benepali. Although the swelling has gone now, I still get lots of pain in my wrists as well as in odd areas like between my ribs. Hope things improve for you x

I do think it’s absolutely crazy how the DAS scoring is based on a few joints and not the whole picture. It must have been devised by someone who has no clue about RA!

Sympathise Elmo, have similar on inner wrist joints: small lump all the time, painful and stops you lifting/twisting it. This hasn’t changed much in year on MTX so hoping benepali improves it. Waiting on tests etc, could be up to 5 weeks and off MTX for 2 now so hands starting to flare a bit. Not sure which hands joints for das score: wrists are pretty crucial for mobility surely, but then I would have said that about feet too ?? 🤨x
