Hi everyone. Iāve been coming on here. Off & on for a few yrs. Iāve had RA for the past 32 yrs. (53 now). So iām used to pain, waiting rooms, hospitals!! (We all are). But on Sat 27th just gone. I started to get stomach & abdomen pain. Very deep & sharp. Especially on the right side. Got very worried & dr googled. Which isnāt a good idea. I rang my gp surgery on Mon morn. They were lovely & i was put first on the list. (Phone app). Of course she said go to a&e. Was hoping people had stayed away for the new yr. But of course not. Had a few people with funny walks. But no kid with a saucepan stuck on his head. Or a marble lodged up his nose! I got ready for the usual long wait. But i was so impressed. Because of the infusion i have at that hospital every 6 weeks. They took my symptoms very seriously. Did a urine sample. (Clear). Bloods. Showed some sort of infection. I asked the lovely dr if it could just be my condition. He nodded. But we both knew there was more to it. Then they did a CT scan. So weird when they pump that dye through your veins. I always feel like a junky, getting my hit & nearly weeing myself into the bargain. To cut a very long story short. Iāve been diagnosed with Diverticulitis. More pain to add to the joys of RA. I was put on antibiotics yesterday afternoon. Been pumping me with stuff all night & i just know iāll be in at least over new yrās eve. Never, ever, ever had a sober new yrās eve. I asked my lovely nurse if she could slip a little vodka in my drip š¤£ (sounds like a blues song) DR. PLEASE SLIP A LITTLE WHISKY IN MY DRIP. Hope no one else has bad luck like me. Hope you all have a tipsy, painfree(ish) new yrās night. X
Sober new year šš: Hi everyone. Iāve been coming on... - NRAS
Sober new year šš
Oh no! It sounds as if youāve had a bad time, and now had another condition to add to your list! I know what you mean about the CT scan with contrast. I was in hospital for 7 weeks in the spring. I had pneumonia for 4 weeks and was really poorly. My infection markers were still high after that but I was kept in another 3 weeks while they tried, unsuccessfully, to decide where the infection was. I had a ct scan with contrast, and was told about the feeing as if Iām weeing. It was a weird sensation!
Bloody hell. Hope they donāt keep me in that long. Iāve actually just seen the Consultant. He doesnāt think i need an op! Theyāve just re-done my bloods. The marker was 59 yesterday. He said if theyāre lower today. I can take some antis with me & go home!! Iām not getting excited yet. Butā¦ š¤š¤š¤Hope you have a pain freeish new year. X
My husband has it and finds 2-3 days of the good stuff ie antibiotics and it calms down. He does a lot of soup after an attack to rest the bowel for him crispy salad leaves and seeds set him off! Once he got his head round it and has tramadlo and emergency antibiotics to hand he lives ok . Not had an attack for a few years now. Gets what I call grumbly gut but he switches to soups and soft foods and normally calms down. When he was diagnosed he was told had a bowel of an 80yr old he was 45 at the time š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£
Iām finding this disease more depressing than RA. Iāve read it can cause dry mouth & eyes. I already have those from the bloody menop. Plus iām on 2 lots of blood pressure meds which can do that. With my Iritis & Glaucoma, that are 2 serious eye conditions i have with the RA, iām feeling quite low. Still on the ward. Waiting to see if i can bugger off home. Plus i havenāt slept for 2 nights! You donāt go to hospital for peace n quiet!! Iām so grateful for the internet, to research things like this. I love my food (& booze) which are slowly being taken away from me. š„
Iāve just remembered. Americans always go on about their sodding colon! Hardly any red meat. My mum used to cook spicey mince every day with fresh veg & noodles. She was a very good cook. Loads of fresh veg. She had a great sense of humour. Used to joke about her MINGEā¦š³
My hubby still drinks twice a week and smokes outside! I have a lot of add on to RA and just deal with each one when they raise their heads right now RA a friggin nightmare as off old med for 3 months went into hellhole then given a new med and now on hellhole 2!
All the other stuff trying to play but my mind and Ra wonāt let them play right now.
Stay strong and think of good things when you can and as soon as you feel up to it go and do something for you whether a manicure, a meal out or garden. š„°
Good for your hubby. Canāt let these conditions take us over. My ex was diagnosed with type1 diab when he was 40. An awful shock. He tried low alcohol lager. Was being good. But his blood sugar rocketed to dangerous levels. So he just stuck with norm lager. Anyway. Have a feeling iām staying another night. The infection markerās gone up from 57 to 87. But the lovely nurse said you never know. To be honest. Iām exhausted. My hospitalās in Euston. Thereāll be loads of people out there & i live in Covent Garden. So loads of rds will be closed. Hate crowds when iām not well. Anyway. Iāll stop moaning. Hope you & your hubby have a peaceful new year. X
Have a healthy and happy 2025. Hopefully as pain free and no new conditions as possible. Everything crossed that you are able to go home. Just curious - an alcoholic drip????
Hey. Just a quick update. At about 4pm, they came & said i could go home. I was stunned. They gave me a luggage full of antis, painkillers & laxatives. Great New Yr combo! Thought i would be bad & give into temptation booze wise. But i felt so ill & tired, i resisted. I was on the Earl Gray. My partner had some wine. I got a bit worried. I vomitted at about 11.30pm. So i wasnāt feeling very new yeary. I felt guilty as my partner was in a good mood. I just wanted to sleep. But i stayed up with him. I duveted it! We had planned to go to a lovely old pub we like. But there was no way i was up to it. Anyway. Going to be strict with the antis. Then having a colonscopy in a coup of weeks. Loads of horrible ācementā to drink beforehand. Iām surprised these awful āinfluencersā donāt film themselves having a camera āup thereā. They always love taking āselfiesā. š³This will b the face iāll be pulling when theyāre āinsertingā the camera. SMILE!!!
I was lucky my camera experience was down. Always dreaded having one up. Not the camera the amount of liquid that needs to go down! Good luck. Hopefully nothing untoward will be found and you will be left thinking why was I worried, walk in the park. Take care
Veri similar story to yours , but not at new year . I have PsA, fibromyalgia, diabetes, , heart failure, to name just a few, then 2 years ago was taken to hospital and diagnosed with Diverticulitis, sent home next day with antibiotics even though still having pain and awful runs , anyway it cleared up and touch wood I have only had little niggles since mostly when constipated. I donāt follow any of the rules .This year though day after Boxing Day suffered some sort of virus and chest infection , saw doctor yesterday and was given antibiotics and an inhaler as I just canāt stop wheezing , whatever next I ask myself , I honestly donāt know if I have room for anymore tablets 15 in the am 6 mid-day and 20 at night. Anyway hope your Diver is as trouble free as mine. Happy new year to you
Hey. Wow. I thought i had health stuff with RA, Iritis, Glaucoma & now this. Iād rather have mine than yours!!! With all your crap, you sound quite positive. Maybe thatās why your ādiverā hasnāt flare up as much. Iām quite an anxious person. I think āstressyā people can have more flare ups. It was weird not having any booze new yrās eve. Didnāt think iād be able to resist temptation. Especially as my partner had some wine. But i just had a cup of earl gray tea!! I live in Covent Garden & we could see the fireworks that were being shown by Waterloo bridge from my flat. We had the windows open. The noise was incredible. I still wasnāt feeling well. But it was great. Hope your year doesnāt bring more health challenges. X
Know how you feel spent last new year in waiting area from morning and eventually got a bed at 2200, have bad hip spasms at times they don't know why despite xrays and ct ct did diagnose adenoma on my kidney they are sure the tumour is benign feel your pain.
Bless you Vixen. I ended up in hospital on boxing day. Horrendous back pain yet again! 3 days later was out and hospital sorting a neurologist appointment for me. After 2 years of having this happen it's about time they tried to find out what causes it. Anyway I don't drink much at all now, maybe a small scotch or baileys every couple of weeks but last night I had a large Southern Comfort and it was yummy. Happy New Year and I hope you feel better very soon. Xx
Poor you. Diverticulitis is no joke! Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Im sorry to hear this. Thatās not the best start to the new year as you say. Iām pleased you were seen quickly. I started in July with pain every time I ate severe bloating & dreadful wind. I never had diahorrea but only passing soft tiny bits. The pain was awful I cried doubled up most days. Stupidly I put up with it thinking it would pass but it didnāt so contacted the surgery. I was classed as routine & was told 5 week wait for appointment. Was eventually seen in September & had samples taken showed positive FIT test & other stuff. I was told I needed an urgent Colonoscopy but that got done in November by which time it wasnāt as severe. I was diagnosed with Diverticulosis & the 4 months of acute symptoms had been Diverticulitis. There was a lot of inflammation & the biopsies showed Proctitis so now have to have Mesalazine anti inflammatory suppositories twice a day. The hospital have referred me to a gastro specialist & dietitian but so far not heard from them. I saw a GP in December who wanted to wait till all my results from other tests were back ( I have lost 10kgs in past 18months so did full body CT) & have an appointment booked for 7th Jan. This will be 6 months from the initial flare up. Iām so annoyed I had to wait so long & the suppositories are making me feel so ill. Sorry for the rant I definitely wonāt wait next time it flares up. Iām pleased you are getting help but obviously not about the diagnosis. As you say another AI disease to put up with. Do let us know how you get on.
beautiful story brought a few smiles . So sorry about your diagnosis. Thank you for sharing, Have a better New Year . Xx
