I saw the consultant today re the results of my MRI scan for the fluid on the knee and bakers cyst.
Apparently It showed very little arthritis in the knee. All my bloods were ok, apart from one and, for the life of me, I can’t remember what it was (the consultant mumbles hell of a lot - despite me asking him to repeat).
It was something to do with antibody pattern, which made him imply it could be inflammatory arthritis and so he’s referred me to a rheumy and discharged me from the orthopaedic clinic. He thought it highly unlikely it is connected to PMR.
So after 6 months of a swollen & painful knee on we go….

Inside compartment degeneration, flapping cartilage and badly arthritic knee cap. This after 3 consultants more or less told me to go away as they couldn’t see anything! Ha.
I still think mine started with doing something to my knee during an exercise class (I’ve kept telling them all that!) But the x-Ray & MRI only showed a little bit of arthritis and quite a lot of fluid on the knee. When I asked what would be done about all the fluid he said the rheumatologist will say about that!
It was swollen too. A steroid injection helped with that (given by the ortho by the way, well his chap ; under guided) but it came back. Mine is degeneration. No injury.
Interesting. I am on the reverse journey. My knees swell up, particularly the left one, rheumatology has referred me to orthopaedic surgeon saying more likely physical rather than inflammatory. Seeing them next week so will be interested to see what they say. Feels a bit tweedledum dumb tweedledum dee.
I'm on both journeys, been passed back and forth between rheumy and knee surgeon all year. Had various scans, meds and a knee arthroscopy. They said probably fluid from inflammation but even with RA drugs the knee still hasn't returned to normal, although improved. Another rheumy folow up in January with probably new drugs so fingers crossed.
