Hello everyone. Well this is a strange one on me but has anyone ever had the feeling of heat at the base of bottom and or side of thighs ? I’ve been on methotrexate for 6 weeks and past two weeks upped it from 15 to 20mg. No other effects at all and this has come on past few days . There’s no redness , just heat . The odd occasion I have it on my thighs , I’m 59 and thought I was post menopause but quite frankly don’t think it’s that . Anyone any ideas ?
thanks ☺️

So I have an area to the middle 1/3 of the outer thigh, that is either completely numb, or had intense burning pain, like when you stand too close to a fire. My rheumatology physio, says it’s called meralgia paraesthesia and is due to inflammation pressing on the cutaneous nerve as it passes through the groin. It’s been like this for around 7yr, I prefer the numbness, and have learned to live with it.
Hi there. Ahh thank you , I also googled ( which I know isn’t the best to do) and saw this also. I hope it goes away ! Enough for us to deal with RA let alone others that want to join the party. Hope all is as good for you as possible. It’s changing mindset , I’m finding that so difficult and almost would say a depressive state 😐
Spend some time going through the things that you can be pleased about or grateful for. For example I'm really pleased that I have such good relationships with my adult children and grandchildren as I didn't manage that with my mother. It puts your long term illness in proportion rather than concentrating on how it limits your life. Best wishes.
Thank you , you’re right, difficult to do I just need to try harder. Early days for me so it’s all still new and I’m having to learn a lot about myself and accepting what I have, nonetheless I need to try harder. Wishing you a nice day
I currently have a ‘fire’ burning in both of my hips and outer thigh area but I been to see consultant this week and have bursitis in both hips but I guess I already knew that prior to the appointment. I’ve been given exercises to do and told to massage and ice the area which is excruciating but I’m still doing it. Two days in of exercises and everything else seems to be joining the party especially my knees. What I’m trying to say is it could be inflammation but as you’ve only just increased your mtx I guess that’s the reason it was increased. I can only suggest that you give your hip a poke and see if it’s coming from there. Hopefully your new mtx dose will settle things down 🤷♀️🤗
Oh bless you, sorry to hear that you have this also. It’s a party that neither of us want to be at. I assume it is inflammation therefore. I am seropositive and ccp 224 RF 64 so I think I’m destined for a rubbish journey. I click in shoulders , knees , hips and wrists, like a pair of castanets. All my consultant said was I rather you didn’t ( strangely, neither do I 🙄😃) but I went in because of my swollen knee so perhaps it’s all going berserk now . I’ll call rheumy team, maybe I need other meds in addition to. I just don’t understand 😔. Take good care and thanks for the support 🥰
That’s what we are here for, a problem shared and all that. I’m seronegative so nothing shows up in any blood tests which can be problematic but I know when I’m inflamed and can usually tell what’s up but that’s coz unfortunately I have lots of experience. Good idea to follow up with rheumy and see if another med or some tweaking of the ones you’re on could be in order. Good luck.
also have this burning sensation in my knees hip and thumb which are affected by arthritis. This is very evident a couple of days after I've taken my dose of 8 tablets.
