Hi Anglia,

I’ve had a similar issue that was picked up on a routine Chest Xray. I had lots of tests done including a lung wash.

Have they given you any indication what may have caused the nodule?

No it’s only small but looking up fibrosis was more concerning xx

hello anglia - husband had a lung scan ( screening program for current and ex smokers) a year ago and they found a small nodule, he had further scans 3months after and again 6months ago and now a year after the first one- no change in size and will rescan in a year. It seems common to find these nodules that aren’t sinister on these CT scans- he’s been more concerned about the coronary calcification shown up that no one else is worried about. No idea what has caused this nodule- he does have asthma and did have a bad chest infection two years ago but no cough etc . He doesn’t have RA or any autoimmune disease. The more you look the more you find… All good wishes.

Hi Anglia, I have a nodule, which was found a couple of years ago. It has stayed the same size. They are monitoring it on an annual basis and so far no problems. I have a very good friend who has 5 nodules and has had them for many years. Now checked on a 5 year basis. We are both in our mid-seventies. Take care and make sure you enjoy your life.

Interesting reading re nodule monitoring.

I had a dvt in my leg in 2019 and they ct scanned my lungs to check for blood clots. I knew I had scarring, emphysema and bronchiectasis but they found 3 nodules. These were monitored for 6 months and then I was 'discharged' as nodules hadn't grown. Haven't had them checked since then.

I had pulmonary fibrosis diagnosed in 2021, after having shortness of breath, which didn’t improve with a course of steroids or changes in my inhaler. Once it was discovered on HRCT I was urgently referred to a pulmonologist. They used to believe it could be caused by methotrexate, so my rheumatologist stopped it. However, my pulmonologist said more recent and stronger research shows it actually delays onset and can help, so she put me back on it. Changed my inhalers and prescribed some new meds. I am monitored yearly with lung function tests, which so far are stable. My ankylosing spondylitis went undiagnosed for 25yrs, and she feels it’s more likely years of uncontrolled inflammation that’s caused it. As others say, nodules are often found incidentally. I had a PET scan in 2016, which found a small nodule in my lung, and another on my thyroid, neither of which were giving me any symptoms. I really wouldn’t worry 🤗

Hi anglia, I got two small nodules in my right lung. They have slightly grown over the last 5 years and I am under observation. Scans twice a year or so. The nodules don't worry me at all and don't affect me in any way. It might be RA related or not. I never think about it until I get the letter for the scan. All the to you.

I have RA and my Dr sent me for a lung CT scan an they found 2 nodules in my lungs. Every year I have the low radiation CT scan, they have grown very little and it has been about 4 years. I take Rinvoq (15 mg) every day, plus rheumate which is mostly folate and magnesium.

Hi I don't really know about fibrosis but I believe Lung Nodules can be harmless but are initially monitored. I have several Lung Nodules in both lungs found initially in 2017 on X Ray screening for new Biologics. I was referred to Respiratory & was monitored for 3 years with 6 monthly high resolution Ct's. Over that period the nodules increased then some vanished. It was a different picture each time. The largest was 7mm I think. I also had ground glass show on one CT & had an extra CT a few months later to re check. After 3 years they decided that the nodules were not behaving like cancer & I was discharged. I had a full body CT in 2022 for something else & was told they had all vanished. I actually had a CT last week for a different issue & there are a few lung nodules showing again. I was told it can be due to inflammation. I hope someone can help with the fibrosis part. Hopefully you will get some answers soon.
