Hair thinning and Methotrexate
I've not had hair loss on my head . Use gentle shampoo from Paul Mitchell .
I take biotin daily ,12000 microgramme( with the approval of my rheumy nurse specialist) and it definitely helps the condition of my hair, which had gone very straw like on MTX. I plateaued on the hair loss within the first few months of being on MTX.I also use Avon Advance Techniques shampoo and conditioner...I stumbled onto this quite randomly and was pleasantly surprised at how good it is.
An (over the counter) supplement called Biotin recommended by my RA nurse, slowed down and eventually stopped my hair loss over 6-12 months. My thinning hair had become very noticeable but it grew back and is now as good as ever.
I stopped Biotin after it had done its job and now take a spoonful of marine collagen powder in my coffee once a day. This has improved the condition of my hair and has helped my nails which had become quite brittle … and hopefully is helping my bones ?
Hi , methotrexate does cause finer hair as l have found but a good hairdresser will help you to find a short haircut that you like which l now have and it's easy to care for as well. Good luck with the taking of the methotrexate long term .
