Hygienist appt

I have an appt with hygienist and dentist after, every 6 months.

Unfortunately every time my wisdom teeth become painful, area swells , and I develop laryngitis. It's difficult to know what I can do to prevent this each time, as it seems to be the physical disturbance to my teeth while cleaning.

Anyone else get this?

Haven’t ever had this happen but surely worth asking your dentist at your next appointment what you can do to prevent the problem.

Never heard of that - sounds horrible; definitely calls for a conversation with the dentist!

Yes dentist says there's load of room for them so they're ok, thanks for the query.

Update researched this and it's a thing that can happen. Reasons is

1) having mouth open for length of time causes strain on muscles and jaw which can cause pain.

2) mouth, and throat drying out ( never good for me) leading to sore throat, bacterial infection, laryngitis.

So answer is drink lots of water prior to the appt, steam inhalations, lots of fluids post the treatment, honey or honey and lemon drinks. 🙂

You need to see a dentist but in the meantime have you tried rinsing with Corsodyl (the medicated one, not the daily mouthwash)? My gums get irritated by my sharp teeth and I get blood-filled bullae in my throat. The Corsodyl usually settles things down.

Stills

note my diagnosis is Stills Disease made in 1979 aged 17 now 62 and major drug free. However I have been told by every dentist I’ve seen since then that I must take antibiotics when I have a clean or treatment. For years I did bug then moved and decided not to mention the Stills disease….., many cleans later ..,, no problems even though Stills causes constant sore throats
