I'm new here after being diagnosed with RA a year ago. I had my first infusion of rituximab just over 4 weeks ago & second 2 weeks ago and I've noticed a metallic taste in my mouth and I wondered if its connected to the meds, as Ive also had a dental teeth clean during that time but my dentist says my teeth are fine no loose fillings etc. It really ruins eating as everything taste weird...

I don't have a 'taste' in my mouth but I have definitly gone off all my favourite foods and drinks, prefering a very bland diet. Very unusual for me. I have had 2 infusions so far
I've been taking Mtx for a year but only had this taste recently so connected it with rituximab ... will definitely try the mints... Not had any improvement with symptoms yet but early days I suppose. <*}}}}}}<
I had bad taste disturbances after first Rituximab it was a few weeks after & I was in a restaurant they gave us pineapple free from the grill as dessert. It tasted very strongly of chilli & I couldn’t eat it. I even said I think it was cut with a knife that had been used to cut chilli! This continued for several months but not constantly. Never as strong as the first time & mostly with coffee tea & fruit for some reason. I read up on it & it said that when part of the immune system has been altered it’s possible to get strange tastes & smells. Mine wore off eventually. X
Ive been taking Mtx for a year and not noticed any taste change so far, this metallic taste Ive got since Rtx is in my mouth , even my teeth taste metallic ! Weird and off-putting.
I have this with methotrexate (Well I think it’s this) used to like beans and tomato soup but then I would get the metallic taste It’s horrible puts me right off My husband says I’m to fussy but I know it definitely is something else I don’t get it all the time but I do get it!
Yep, thats what its like since Rtx not noticed it with Mtx tho... It is horrible and nothing to do with being fussy , It seems ok with soft things , porridge etc but anything with a bit of bite.... hmmmm....
Thanks everyone for your replies, it is reassuring. Until I read slightlyrumpled's comments, I was thinking I was sickening for yet something else. You've all reassured me to hang in there and just wait it out. Thanks guys keep taking the meds and pray the crippling doesnt happen. It is wonderful what medicine can do for us today!
