Just started Methotrexate (had first dose) couple of days later when showering &washed my hair I noticed an unusual (for me) amount of hair coming out.
Just wondering if this was a thing or just coincidence?
If it is a side effect, any tips on managing it?

Are you on folic acid? How have you been taking it. I lost hair but started taking collagen and biotin. If you are taking folic acid but your hair is still falling out, it maybe worth speaking to your GP about getting you tested for the mthfr-gene. People with this gene are unable to process the synthetic form of folic acid.
So it xan be a thing! Yes started the foluc day after. Will see how things go as not even 1 week gone yet.

I had this and a few on here recommended Biotin and collagen and my niece a hairdresser said the same. I went from thick hair to a patchy scalp but within 12weeks hair growth back and patches gone so I was much happier. I now do a maintenance thing of once a year 3 months of doing it and seems to Work for me . Got mine on Amazon.

Which product brand of biotin and collagen did you take please. I would like to try too, my hair shredding? Do you take the product for 3 months and break and then go on again?

I did it till I was happier with my scalp which was about 3-4 months and now just do 12 weeks of biotin and collagen once a year. Will look up what I got and get back to you

I used these too . I don’t use now as hair fine now . Definitely mtx caused this until body adapted to mtx but biotin and collagen helped hugely

I don’t think Mtx causes hair loss quite that fast. Just ensure you are prescribed FA six days a week…& hope you are one the lucky ones who tolerates Mtx successfully for years!
I take folic acid everyday because of hair loss and nausea. It helped me a lot. Dr. prescribed it for me. Been on methotrexate since 2018.
Hair loss isn't too bad and it stops soon so don't get put off!
I’ve been on mtx since 2020 I upped folic acid to 6 days per week and it helped no end with the nausea and hair loss. I have very thick hair anyway and I shed a lot but I’ve actually shed a lot more since having the RA overall. By 7 weeks I was back to normal and now I have the best nails!!
yes I had a terrible time with hair loss! That is a side effect of methotrexate I went off of it quickly. (Had other bad SE too)Now I’m waiting patiently for my hair to grow back!
Could be something else causing the hair loss especially that amount after just one dose. Recent diagnosis and the stress of it and being unwell could be a cause too so don’t be too hasty and blame the mtx. As others have said after a while on it and folic acid 6 days my hair loss stopped.
