periodontal treatment

Hi everyone

I haven’t been on much as all emails from Health unlocked going into junk -not sure how to change that !

Anyway - I’ve seen a periodontal specialist (referred by dentist ) and he wants to do treatment -I think it’s like a deep clean where on some teeth he goes down to where roots are to clean to try and stop gum disease from getting worse and losing teeth. I explained about being immunosuppressed ( Baricitinib) and he thinks it’s wise to stop 2 weeks before and after because of increased infection risk.

I just wondered if anyone else had had this treatment and there thoughts on it.

Thank you !

Well even for a major op you only have to stop Baricitinib a week before as it has a short half life. And can restart as soon as wound healed. I’d check with your helpline.

I would take advice from your rheumatology team, but that does seem a bit extreme.

Not exactly this treatment but an extraction so I had to stop week before and week afterwards. My dentist phoned my consultant for advice

I had 3 teeth extractions a few months ago and only came off MTX for 1 week. My nurse said stop it for 2 weeks but by the second week my mouth had well healed and my wrists were starting to twinge 🙄 Last month I had a deep clean at the hygienists-not sure how deep but deep enough to need anaesthetic! I didn't come off it at all for this, didn't even think about it to be fair but I was fine.

Re mail going into junk, apologies you probably already know this: you should be able to set a rule so anything coming from Healthunlocked goes to your Inbox or classify it as Not Junk. How to do that depends on what software you use for mail, an enquiry on internet should guide you.

hi I think if you put HealthUnlocked’s address in contacts list it may stop their emails going to junk or spam mail.
