On holiday in Sorrento. Want to miss methotrexate tomorrow so I'll feel ok and can have a bit more to drink. Anyone else done this?
Holiday: On holiday in Sorrento. Want to miss... - NRAS
Holiday
Yes!
I have, but that doesn't mean it's right for everyone
I can't comment on the mtx as I've never done it. But I would like to say have a wonderful time in Sorrento ☺️🌞
Hi, I took Methetrexate for many years and always missed the dose when I went on holiday, so I could enjoy it fully. It’s not for everyone (a personal choice) but I worked on the logic that if we’re advised to miss a dose and restart after an infection then a couple of times a year when on holiday should be ok. Enjoy your holiday!
Oh wow, that sounds like a lovely holiday! Hope you enjoy more beautiful sunsets 🌅
Hi there. I would be interested to know why you want to skip the MTX. I'm assuming it's due to side effects? I'm struggling with MTX side effects myself and getting rheumatology to take the issue seriously. I'd be grateful to hear the reasons for wanting to skip it, the dose and how you take it.
And of course have a lovely holiday!
Seb.
I forgot my mtx when on holiday once and missed a dose. No ill effects . Just my experience….enjoy the holiday!
I believe this is an individual thing depending on how well controlled your RA is. I know I am currently well controlled and have done so. Remember MTX stays in body so it won't like too much alcohol.
Whatever you decide enjoy Italy.
Yes. I miss a dose if I go on holiday because I don't want it ruined by 4 days of nausea and fatigue.
I have always done it when on holiday and been lucky not to suffer any flares on return.
Enjoy your holiday this disease is depressing enough without upsetting your holiday. X
I've just been on holiday and didn't take my methotrexate as I can feel nauseas the day after and have not had any repurcushions, have a good holiday.
I’m going on holidays soon and I’m planning to skip my dose also. It’s not often we go away so I don’t want to waste a day feeling nauseous and especially in the heat. Hope you have a great holiday!
Hey GinnyE. I went to Sorrento yrs ago with my mum. Beautiful place. Went to Amalfi for the day. When the coach swerved round the cliffs & we saw the coast. We all gasped. Stunning. Olive trees, lemon trees by the side of the road. We did some lovely wine tasting, watched mozarella being made. We stayed in a sweet little family run hotel. Great food too. (Sexy waiters helped with the view too!!)
I know with methotrexate they’re very strict about alcohol. But you sound like you’re responsible the rest of the year & you just want to ‘relax’ a bit. I don’t blame you! I’m sure your body will be ok if you miss a few doses. But obviously keep it with you incase. Enjoy beautiful Sorrento. (Even the name makes me sigh). X
I have always missed methotrexate when I go away on holiday and I have been on it 8 years. I can’t advise you but if your RA is well controlled you should be fine. Maybe give the rheumy nurse a ring to confirm. My consultant has always said to me that as long as you don’t go above the recommended number of units a week (and don’t drink them all in one day!) and have regular blood tests it’s fine. Have a great holiday
I am so pleased to read your post re stopping MTX whilst on holiday so you can enjoy a little tipple (or two) I've never thought of doing it but will certainly do so next week when off for some sunshine. If you haven't already visited the Foreigners Club in Sorrento it's a beautiful place to have a drink or lunch with amazing views over the rocks (my favourite place) Enjoy the rest of your holiday.
Thanks so much everyone for your replies. Sorrento, my third visit, still lovely, but very very busy . I seem to have set ideas bubbling about being "naughty" on holiday. Off to pool now, and trying to count to 14!
Yes, enjoy your hols.
I'm due to start Mtx for the first time when I get back from hols at end of June. How long does the nausea last for? Starting to dread it!
Not everyone gets nausea - or, indeed any side effects. Personally I feel a bit tired and "foggy" about 24 hours afterwards but no nausea. Try not to expect problems, optimism is always the best policy even if it takes some effort 😉
I didn't suffer with nausea when I took MTX with prednisolone for PMR but did when I'd got off the pred and they decided the PMR had morphed into RA so had to take 20mg weekly again. Helped when I split the dose in two.
How does that work? 2 different days?
If its tablets, you take half in the morning and half at night I think. I'm sorry if I've got you worried about methotrexate. I've been on it for five years and live with the nausea now and again. If they start you on a small dose you will probably be fine. Its better than letting RA wreck you. It's bound to be a bit anxiety causing at first.
