Hi. I am just looking for some reassurance. I am off to Vietnam and Cambodia soon having not really flown since Covid. I will be masked in the airports and on the planes and am having my covid booster tomorrow. I used to fly long haul without really thinking about it although looking back I often got respiratory illnesses while away. I have been relatively comfortable with my decision to go back to far off holidays and experiences but as the flights get nearer I am wondering if I am a bit potty to be risking it. Does anyone else fly regularly with no problems? I have had covid and needed anti virals.

Long Haul Flight
hi
I haven’t flown long haul yet (only spain ) and I think your mask is your friend. Before I was diagnosed I worked in health care and I watched others catch Covid but I didn’t . I even cared for my father in law who was positive. I appreciate you’re also concerned re other illnesses. So I would take gel on the plane and a straw to drink under your mask. Your own water bottle to refill and adhere to good hand hygiene practices. All the stall warts of good protective practices.
Most of all have a fantastic time as you will I hope stay well and make most of your time there and make lots of happy memories.
All the best 😊
The air is safer on an aircraft than in a supermarket. I worked for an airline flying all over the world for many years & it was always accepted that passengers picked up colds & sore throats because the cabin is pressurised at around 8000ft asl…& they got dehydrated.
So drink plenty of water, not alcohol - on your flight…& in the heat on the ground.
Happy Holiday!
Go enjoy yourself we can't stop doing everything I went on a walking holiday last week and adjusted the length of walks skipped some rested in the evening and enjoyed it apart from weather...
Hi I have flown long haul regularly (to Canada) to see my son and his family and during Covid restrictions.
Your mask can definitely be your friend plus hand gel plus pack of disinfectant wipes for bathroom areas.
Main thing is to have a fabulous time. I have been to both countries and they are truly amazing.
By the way I have RA and take 15mgs by injection each week. I travelled with my medication without any issues.
Enjoy your trip 🥰
Hi, I flew and holidayed in Zambia couple of years back. 3 flights, 4 airports! Masks, sanitiser and lots of water hydration on plane. And a few 4 hour flights since. All been fine. Oh, and have a fabulous time.
hi, I fly long hall all the time … it’s no bigger risk really than short haul. I am on a biologic.
Just make sure your travel insurance is up to date…. But other than that enjoy. While I understand that you are worried, life is for living!
I have had no problems flying all around the world. Hope that helps
you will be absolutely fine just keep up with good hygienic. I went to Brasil 3 times since Covid, France ,Mexico, Dubai and I always been fine apart that once I went to Brasil to see my family and I got Covid from my dad. You have a lovely time!!! Enjoy your holiday just make sure to always clean your hands and don’t talk too close to other people. X
I have flown to and from Australia twice and to LA and back and not had any problems on the long haul flights. However I did get Covid from a short haul flight back from Marseille. Don’t over think it and take the precaution of a mask, anti bac gel and wipes and sit back and enjoy. Air on these long hauls is well filtered. I take methotrexate and leflunomide.
I flew long haul to Borneo and Thailand in February without any problems and chose not to wear a mask on the plane . I’ve had all my Covid boosters and unsure how much this has helped but I queue up and stick my arm out each time it’s offered. Have previously caught Covid twice but refused antivirals the second time because they caused a terribly upset tummy.
I visited an orangutan orphanage in Borneo and helped feed and bathe elephants in Thailand .. priceless memories I’ll treasure forever. Take whatever precautions make you feel safe/comfortable but go and enjoy your life. 😊
Definitely take a few disposable masks and change them regularly. I shielded all through the lockdown, even to the point of keeping a bowl of water with disinfectant for my daughter and the dog's feet if they'd been for a walk, disinfecting all groceries before they came into the house. And I didn't get covid until last December when we flew into Singapore, took a cruise and the flight home was from Mumbai - lady behind me was coughing the whole time and I ended up diagnosed with covid the day before Christmas Eve. I think it's reasonable if someone has a cough to ask them to wear a mask, and maybe to ask the air steward if they would have a word and ask them to wear one (take a few extras so you can offer a few over if necessary). I had the antivirals but having to stop my RA meds during that time brought on a huge flair that is only now coming back under control, it's taken literally 3 months. It is a risk that you take and I will be way more conscious of these things if I fly again.
I used to have to fly for work and deeply disliked it. Now I would add environmental reasons not to do so - as well as illnesses. But while you do travel i hope you enjoy and can do so safely
