Most medical articles say the efficacy of the shingles vaccine lasts between 7 to 10 years, also noting most people wont need another vaccine in their life , but that time frame does suggest the possibility some health care providers may want patients to be vaccinated again...cdc.gov/vaccines has a good explanation, quoting good coverage for 7 years. five years seems to short a time though.......

Thank you Dawn7 thats what I thought, Thank you!!!

why would you want to take it, because the GP said so?

well I dont like jabs but if its to protect you than I would like to protect myself, shingles is horrible by all accounts but if I am well covered I am not going to have another for the sake of it, I am 60 yrs this year

Thank you for your input pammi2, but as I have already said I posted a tread asking a question of timing with the shingles jab not a thread asking if I should have any vaccinations at all, so thank you but no thank you

I think you have the wrong site for debates, this site is for RA

VeronicaF - vaccines for people with RA is a perfectly legitimate topic for people to seek help and support on. The rules around shingles vaccines changed last year and it is important for people with RA to have the ability, if they choose, to protect themselves from further illness through vaccination.

I had shingles last year was not good but got over it , I asked my gp about having the jab but I was 65 in July so just missed the cut off and he thinks the medication I am on dosnt justify him giving it via the other rules, I have had RA for 20 years had a stroke and been on a selection of biological,s he said the RA and bio's are not immune altering so can't see any justification

Hi dmags, this article on our website might be helpful. People with RA should usually get Shingrix, even if they are taking a low-dose immunosuppressive medication to treat their symptoms. Everyone aged between 70 and 79 years is eligible for the shingles vaccine up to 79 years of age. If you are 65 on or after 1 September 2023 you are also eligible for your shingles vaccine. If you have a severely weakened immune system you will be eligible for shingles vaccine from 50 years of age. nras.org.uk/resource/immuni...

my question was not that I am worried about the jab itself, or any side effects, my question was really how long does a shingles jab last for? for life? having come on here to ask my questions Dawn7 has answered it for me, thank you Dawn7

hi

I am just into second week of shingles, and wouldn’t wish it on anyone.I am sure I had the jab within the last 5 years, but do need to check with g.p.As my meds for ra can cause shingles virus to activate,I suspect it may be that in spite of having jab.I think I will hopefully get away with the worst of the postherpatic pain as had prompt antivirals.Am going to check with g.p when out and about again, but will have another jab if they offer it before I am 80 in November,as that may be cut off point.I think my point is the more protection the better as it has really been pretty bloody! Also, having to pause ra meds for 2 weeks does not help the pain!,
