Here I am, back in hospital again, for the same reason as last time. Our ambulance service is good but there aren’t enough of them. Both times I’ve been hospital in February because I gently slid off the edge of my bed. I’m living with my daughter at the moment and she has lovely shiny wooden floors, but this means I can’t get up, even with my daughter’s help, so have to call an ambulance. This time I was on the floor for 10 hours, which means you have to be admitted and I’m still here, waiting for an MRI of my foot!

I’ve had it now, thanks. If the infection hasn’t gone into my bones I’ll be able to use my crutches and walk again, but first I have to be assessed to check I’ve remembered how use them. The last time I used them was Wednesday morning this week!

I'm glad that part is over and hope it hasn't gone into your bones. Good luck with the crutches if all OK. 🙏

I think your daughter should maybe try to speak to the man in the carpet shop to get something temporary to put around your bed before you do some yourself serious harm .

The physio has got me a post operation boot for my left foot and I wear a slipper on my right foot. It’s NOT going to happen again!

I hope not….it can’t be doing you any good all this falling about.

Hope you are OK but slippers and boots don't resolve the way you are falling or prevent it . Twice in a month?. I suggest you get an assessment of the suitability of the room at your daughters if you are staying there ongoing around the bed and flooring. I used to work with OTs on assessments.

What about getting an adult bed guard? I haven’t seen hers but I have a friend who used to fall out of bed regularly and she got one for her side of the bed (her husband stops her falling off the other side ) Considering she has osteoporosis she is very lucky she hasn’t broken anything. There are lots of bed guards on Amazon.

My mum has one. It is really sturdy and just slips under the mattress with no installation required. She needs it mainly to pull herself into a sitting position but it's also great for safety.

Do you have medical alarms in the UK? I'm in New Zealand and many of us with medical issues war them and can press them when we are in need. They are connected to a service who will call you back or if unable to get you will ring for an ambulance.

a rug next to the bed if it doesn’t slip might help

Just had a thought but what about wearing non-slip ‘grippy’ yoga socks, they would definitely let you get a grip on the wood floor, we all wear them at Pilates so that we don’t slip on the wood floor.

There is a song….. slip sliding away? Is it worth investing in side shields for your bed? Or a nice large throw carpet??

Hope you get better soon 🥰
