Steroids with flare up
Yes, and yes. Emphatically.
I found that steroids in tablet form didn't seem to help much but injections do help me. I must say however most people I know get great relief from either.
Yes and definitely yes! I’m on 10mg while between biologics.
Hello. They help very much. But they do come with transient side effects. You ought to taper off when stopping them too i.e reduce the dose gradually. Good luck
Yes and yes. They are crest for a short period to get on top of pain, but if on them longer than 3 weeks you need to taper. They are known as the devils tictacs, due to the fact you feel great on them, but they do have a lot of side effects. I ended up with severe adrenal insufficiency, but they. Can result in osteoporosis, diabetes, cataracts, as well as stomach ulcers etc. So they are fine in short bursts, but in the long term you’re better finding something else. I had a condition where steroids were the only treatment, and have resulted in me being diabetic, osteoporotic and the adrenal insufficiency, which was diagnosed when I had a severe stroke as a result of an adrenal crisis, which is how I was diagnosed with adrenal insufficiency. They should always be taken in the morning and with food.
yes definitely, steroids will get the inflammation & pain under control
Thank you for your reply, fingers crossed
Hi I've been on hydroxychlourine for 10 years but this past year things haven't been going well. So my rheumy decided to change my meds to mycophenolate 1000mg. Unfortunately I've had a few bad flares during this time malar rash too. So my meds have been upped to 1500 and I'm currently on a dose of steroids for a month. Starting with 40 mg and dropping weekly. Steroids work for me but they're only a short term fix. Hopefully the bigger dose of mycophenolate will keep lupus at bay. Hope this helps.Mitty
