flare up

I’ve been pain free since being on Adalimumab since November. Yesterday we opened up our caravan on the north Norfolk coast, spent all day putting everything back and ironed all the net curtains and put them back, now I feel dreadful. Both my wrists are swollen and both my feet hurt, is this normal after doing physical activity?

Sadly yes from me. We have phases of feeling normal. To be reminded we are not.

Yes you have over done it darling. Next time you want to try and pace things. Doi a bit then rest before you do some more. Hugs from someone who always over does it. xxxx

I did rest in between jobs but during the night everything stormed in, my sister has volunteered to set it up next year 😊

I think it comes with the condition - you overstretch the mark and pay the price - I had a set back thinking I would deal with spring cleaning - curtains down, windows cleaned etc - then spent 2 days doing absolutely nothing apart from short walks with the dog,

We have to learn how much we can do without paying for it afterwards…..it takes different people different ways & times to sort it out.But once you have it under control things will settle down…don’t let it control you & spoil what you want too do.

Pacing ourselves is very important in RA - but lots of us struggle with this. Ironically it’s more difficult when the meds are working well as that can make us believe we can do more than we should. I tend to be over-cautious if anything and still find myself exhausted and in pain from doing too much.

Don't let it stop you ! Yes you'll be in pain after physical work but the satisfaction from completing the task outweighs it for Me.( Even if I'm doubling the codeine)

I find that flare ups are random - I can blame overdoing thing, changes of weather, travel, sitting too long, getting upset, …

But best for me is to have a quiet day then try to keep on keeping on - I don’t like putting myself in a “can’t do that anymore “ box.

Age creeps on though -

I share your problem - rushed to get strawberry plants in place yesterday which meant moving compost, pots, and pottery shards for the bottom of the pots, from the bottom of the garden to the top, etc. Today after a stiff and painful night, I wished first thing that I had just done half of them and the rest tomorrow. But, hey, it was a beautiful day, warm and sunny and I knew it was forecast to rain overnight, just right for settling them in...so now I have mixed feelings.
