I wonder if anyone has any experience of wearing arthritis gloves? I have a lot of pain and stiffness in my hands especially in the morning

I wear compression gloves at night and find they really help when I have pain and stiffness at night and in the morning. The hospital used to give them out to people but I buy my own now. You could ask your rheumy nurse if they feel you’d benefit from them and could ask if they still give them to people as then you’d find the correct size for you. I buy mine from Complete Care Shop.

I wear arthritis gloves. They weren’t prescribed by anyone and I know most people on here like to have them prescribed / fitted by a health practitioner.

Mine are made by Dr Arthritis or something, I got them from Amazon. They come with a little book of hand exercises.

I like them, I don’t wear them all the time and not normally at night, mostly when the weather is cold even in the house or I wear them when my hands feel stiff.

I’ve got splints too, again I just bought them from Amazon when my plaster cast came off but they are the same as I was given from a hospital years ago when I broke a wrist and I needed something to wear at night - or even if my wrists just feel a bit stiff - in fact I wore one last night because wrist pain woke me up the night before - I think I slept with one wrist in a weird position so out came the splints and for me they make a big difference.

Hi Dismal. I was given Isotoner Therapeutic Open Finger Compression Gloves by the Occupational Therapist at the hospital and I find them really good, I wear them mostly at night when needed whilst in bed and sometimes during the day. They are quite expensive to buy though and are usually priced per glove!!!

I have purchased several pair of compression gloves. I find you get what you pay for. The best ones I have are from a company called OneCompress, and are made of bamboo. I also have their knee sleeves and elbow sleeves. I’m often woken in the night in pain, so keep them by my bed. I wear them in the day, if my hands are particularly painful. You have to measure your hand, so you get the right level of compression.

yes and they help to relieve the pain. When diagnosed with Stills, which is a form of RA aged 17 in 1979 the hospital fitted me with bespoke heavy duty metal contraptions which I wore for a couple of years and they allowed me some measure of independence. These days I have to self manage with compression devices.

I have compression gloves with no fingertips from Amazon they’re about £ 7 & are very helpful. They seem to ease painful fingers. I wear mine at home mostly & after half an hour I can take them off & they’ve done the job. Also wear for tai chi as the room is a bit cool. Hope they help xx

hi dismal. T sometime wear compression gloves and they do help. My son bought me a heated handgadget that massages while it warms my hand. That also works. When my hand is giving me gip put in my little machine for a few minutes and it feels better.

Hi there!

I was given a pair by the OT attached to Rheumatology but they do not make much difference to me and the compression is sometimes painful when my joints are bad. However, I find the warmth is good so I now wear fingerless gloves. They are even warmer and even more comforting.

I hope either kind work for you.

wonderful. Really help. Wear them overnight and in the daytime too when required. Amazon DrArthritis open finger. Ensure you measure correctly. This was recommended by my arthritis OT. A few years ago now but can’t be without them.

I have been wearing my splints for about four weeks, oh what a relief! It doesn’t get rid of the pain, just stops you being able to move so lessening the pain.

Yes, in the early days I used to use them a lot. At night I would put voltarol gel on my hands & then put the gloves on. This helped significantly.

Isotoner every time for me. They are dear but you can get unbranded seconds via Amazon as long as you know / can recognise them online from the pics. I do wish they also produced footless ankle supports though. ! I buy online to help failing NHS, as i can afford to.. they do so much for me with Rituximab which has been a lifesaver.
