For myself I’d say no as I’m 64 and my skin is changing and as well as any risks re ink under the skin I’d not want someone’s work of art to be distorted if I lost weight or my skin wrinkles a lot .. so far so good it hasn’t though! You’d have to ensure a really reputable tattoo practice and we don’t knowhow our immunes will react to ink/dye. I was told don’t do it, in 1995 when diagnosed with RA, not that I asked anyone but the nurse told me ..: we don’t recommend tattoos when you’re immunocompromised … but that was 29 years ago. She said in general that some meds might cause a bleeding problem. I’ve seen a lot of good and bad tattoos, being an art student for so many years and amongst many who were tattooed!
I have several friends on both MTX and biologics, who’ve had tattoos with no issues. They did check with their rheumatologist, who had no problem with it. Obviously use a reputable studio with good hygiene practices
I’m on mtx and a biologic and have had my biggest tattoos whilst on them both. Make sure you get a recommendation from people you know and you can always visit before to check their hygiene procedures and talk to the tattooist.
I've not had a tattoo but I did have my eyebrows micro bladed. I have always gone to someone reputable and double checked also that it was ok to have. Some Practioners don't do it if they you're immune suppressed as well as it can affect their insurance I think so possibly have to sign a waiver so that is why it's always important to go to someone reputable. Life is blinking tough with RA so if we can something done that brings us a little joy safely..then why not! Good luck 🙂
If you see someone with a good looking tattoo, ask where they got it done and by which artist ( most people like to talk about their artwork) if the studio has several artists, ask to see some of their work to ensure you like their style of work.My oldest tattoo is over 30 years old and was done professionally with a single needle in the machine, So still looks very fine lined and no distortion.
I would say that as above, ensure they are registered, and hygenic, if you don't feel good in the studio for whatever reason then walk out and find another.
I avoid red ink as it flares up on my skin.
Think long and hard as to your design - it's in you for good! I regret none of mine.
hi, my condition of Adult onset Stills disease is characterised by a pink blotchy salmon coloured rash and for that reason I was told not to have a tattoo. However that was 1979 and things have changed I’m sure. My only advice is to book it on a good day to minimise discomfort as in days when I hurt all over even brushing my teeth hurts.
