I’m feeling a little worried I had my 15 ml injection of metratrexate yesterday but today I feel like I’m coming down with a cold and a really sore throat that’s quite painful when swallowing there’s been quite a lot of it going around and with me working in a school with small children doesn’t help!my question is it there anything I need to do?if I’d have know I was getting it I wouldn’t of had the metratrexate.
Any advice would be greatly appreciate
Thanks 🙏🏽

there’s nothing you can do once you have the injection, but look after yourself as you would normally with a cold/sore throat. Try not to worry yourself, methotrexate just brings your immune system back to that it should be. I’ve only been told not to take methotrexate if on antibiotics and stopping and starting meds unnecessarily might send you into a flare. 🤞🏻 you recover soon.
I agree with Kitty, I wouldn’t stress over it. You normally only have to hold off if your on antibiotics. My rheumatologist has always told me to continue for usual colds or sore throats. Do what you’d usually do for a sore throat, take regular paracetamol and drink plenty fluids. I worked on a ward whilst on a biologic, MTX and steroids, and had less infections than pre treatment. The reason for that is that your body’s too busy fighting uncontrolled inflammation, that it doesn’t detect viruses sneaking in. Once the inflammation is under control, your body can focus on infections trying to sneak in. As Kitty says, in most people it just turns the dial down to that of healthy individuals. So I really wouldn’t worry. If you feel worse as the week goes on, contact your team for advice
