You def need an MRI scan but also some immediate effective pain relief.
I spent 12 hours in A & E this Tuesday with excruciating back pain so you have my deepest sympathy. There is nothing like it. The Docs laughed when I said I was taking paracetamol. They gave me an MRI scan, meds - Voltarol (suppository), liquid morphine, diazepam, and dihydrocodeine. It still hurt, although they knocked me out. I couldn’t walk. Was in a wheelchair.
At home, I found frozen peas (you can reuse the packet multiple times but don’t then eat them by mistake !)?, followed by hot water bottle, helped. I have 2 bulging lower back discs and they were pressing on a nerve. My back muscles were spasming.
Can I just caution against Tramadol, if you are offered it?
My husband had it for a slipped disc and had to come off it. It can cause severe depression. I have also heard this from other sources. Nasty side effects.
I am so relieved for you that you are being fast tracked for analysis and treatment and I hope you have some home support.
Thank you. I'm on amitriptyline, initially had nerve pain, and that worked fine for me. Anything that supressed the pain made me feel good. I live on my own, in a 2nd floor flat with no lift!!
