Any thoughts on this method of pain relief for RA please?I've been offered this by the rheumy nurse and must admit to a bit of a shock when the email came through as I thought this drug had been withdrawn 50 years ago! My husband was on this for his asthma when I first met him back in 1973 until he was told it had been withdrawn due to some deaths in America.
I'm presuming it's found favour again? I'm keen to try it as oral nsaids are not hitting the spot and messing up my guts big time!

it can work wonders but isn’t a long term solution and I don’t think you’ll be given them regularly, more as a tide you over until your meds start to work or to get you through a flare.
Kenalog (triamcinolone)which was given regularly to asthmatics was withdrawn some years ago as there were too many side effects but it’s still prescribed for relief of RA symptoms. Given as an intra-muscular or joint injection it can be very effective as a one off treatment - sometimes given i.m. up to three times a year- and it bypasses the stomach which is a bonus. You wouldn’t be prescribed these regularly; as KittyJ has said it’ll hopefully see you through a flare. I’ve had many Kenalog or Depo-Medrone injections over the years and have got significant benefit so hope you find some relief very soon.
It would just be a one off hopefully. I'm on hydroxy and been prescribed Etoricoxib to get me through, my thankfully, infrequent flares but this recent one is taking its time to resolve, which is why the Kenalog has been offered.
Think I'll go for it as I'm normally quite active and I don't want to lose the mobility I've achieved,
I’ve had kenelog a few times in the past sometimes it works better than the depo-Medrone it is as others have said a short term fix whilst you’re having a bad spell and not something that is given on a regular basis. I’m not offered a choice anymore so take what I can get when it’s necessary.
