just signed up for free eight week course starting in October run by Versus Arthritis for people with RA

It’s to help balance and muscle strength. I’ll let you know how it is when I start on 7th October. It’s s social group also with tea and biscuits after 😋

I'm assuming it is a Versus Arthritis group near to where you live. Often wondered about tai chi. Yes please report back.

Great idea I am hoping once physio try to sort my blance and gait I might be able to try this an aim for 2024!

tai chi helped me in the past. If anyone has experience of an online course that would be useful for a lot of us

There is an online community called Restless who do a variety of online fitness classes including thi chi. It costs £4.99 a month for unlimited classes, or £2.99 per class.

Ihave found Tai Chi/Chi Gong type exercises to be very helpful for balance and joint flexibility - would love to find agroup ( used to belong to a class) but there are some very good online lessons on Youtube

I love Tai Chi - can't say my balance is particularly good but it does help. I start my day with a 10 minute routine and also do a class once a week

I joined a group some years back and loved it. It also included a bit of meditation and chi gong. Unfortunately after a few years my knees started acting up and I found ti chi was not the excercise for me. It was a public group/club practicing traditional ti chi so not specifically designed for those with RA. I highly recommend this form of exercise, it has many benefits and I still practice some of the movements when I remember.

I do Tai Chi and Qigong and really enjoy them. I have ankylosing spondylitis but also some problems with knees, ankles, wrists. Some weeks I have to slightly adapt the routine but that’s fine. Learning the routine definitely concentrates the mind and helps you forget problems for a while. But just be aware it takes months to learn the whole series of movements. Eight weeks won’t be enough depending on what type of tai chi you are doing. Maybe they will do a simplified version. So don’t feel frustrated if you can’t learn it all at once. It takes time and repetition. If you Google qigong there are some great u tube videos to follow which are relaxation exercises. Apart from walking I can’t do any other sport which is frustrating so I was glad to find tai chi classes which are also sociable. I hope you have fun and enjoy it .

My husband does this stuff personally it’s funny to watch. His oncologist said it’s helpful and even though he’s now on clear he still does a class at the local sports centre.

I've done tai chi before and it's brilliant so relaxing it helps build stamina and improve your posture. We are looking to go to a group where we are now. Good luck.
