Hope it’s okay to post here? I thought I would share one of the big things in my life that helps me deal with RA and the other illnesses I have.
For those that remember Sindy, she is 60 on the 6th September. The Metro recently asked me to share some of my doll collection. I’ve posted the link below. It was a very well written interview and the journalist and photographer were very understanding. Xxx
What a super collection, I also had a Sindy doll in the 60s, best Christmas present I ever got. One outfit I remember she had was a black and white cape. She also had bellbottom trousers with a blue and white striped top. I think my mum handed them over to my nieces for them to enjoy them. You brought back lovely memories for me. Thank you.
I’m so glad you have happy memories about your dolls 😁😁 I have the black and white cape from the 1960s, yes I collect the clothes too! 😂😂 the photo I’ve added is the 2020 reboot Sindy collectors doll, based on that cape from the 1960s xxx
Amazing !!! I enjoyed reading the article so much. It brought back memories of my childhood. I had a Tressy doll - if anyone remembers those? I spent hours with my friend making clothes and accessories. We even made small room sets for them ( I think we got the idea from Blue Peter 🙂) . I developed a lifelong love of needlework but am limited in what I can do these days.Thank you so much for sharing this with us and to see how much joy it brings you 🤗
Oh wow! I’m so glad you have those happy memories of childhood and playing with your doll. My sister and I also used all sorts of things to make furniture and my mum dreaded me watching Blue Peter!! 😂😂
It’s so hard to accept not being able to sew now as I used to love making things. At least I can buy clothes online as so many talented people make doll clothes now.
There is a Facebook group for Tressy you know! 😁😁 xxx
Thanks for the heads up about the Tressy FB🙂I did a lot of dressmaking when I was younger, but I can't manage it anymore. It was great to be able to custom make my own clothes back in the 70s when I was in my teens/ early 20s.The more extreme the better lol.
It’s great to have a hobby. Whatever helps ease the pain of RA. I love to sing jazz & soul. I use the karaoke thing on my tablet. Nina Simone, Julie London, Chet Baker. I love to sing with a piano as instrumental. I sing in the bathroom. (I don’t have a piano in the bathroom!) Gives a lovely echo.
Your collection’s fantastic! I bet you haven’t seen the film Barbie! That would be disloyal to Sindy!
It’s great you are able to sing and enjoy use your voice to bring happiness 💞💞. I have seen the Barbie film, even hubby came with me!! 😂😂. It was a really good movie and much more than a film about dolls. Very funny too 😁😁(don’t tell my Sindys though) 😂😂 xxx
Aaw lovely collection, my sister had Sindy whilst I had Daisy & Pippa dolls, they were pretty small & I used to love making furniture out of matchboxes x
There’s a big Daisy and Pippa following on social media too. I go to a doll convention each year that my friend runs. One of the ladies brought along her daisy dolls for display 😁😁. I have about five Pippa dolls, one from my childhood and I used to love making furniture and a mini house out of a box! 😁😁😁
Hi, before I saw your article I was recently explaining to my husband about Sindy dolls and how I had the one with the Boac outfit and bag. I always wanted to be an air hostess but sadly never succeeded.
I was comparing Sindy to Barbie as the new film was out but I was never a Barbie girl😂
Not long after I was talking about it I saw your article and found it so interesting.
Its lovely you have such a fantastic collection and it helps take your mind of rheumatoid arthritis and all the horrible symptoms that brings.
I also have ra and to be honest have lost interest in everything. I know I need to find something to interest me as I have had to give up a job I loved. Reading about your passion for Sindy and how it helps you has given me inspiration to find something I can do to take my mind off ra.
That was strange that you had recently been discussing Sindy with your husband and then saw the article!! The air hostess dolls are fab and British airways worked with pedigree to reproduce vintage uniforms on Sindy dolls. I have them all in boxes and there have been various uniforms given to Sindy. There was even one designed by Julian Macdonald the fashion designer. Also a Virgin Airways Sindy!
I’m so glad you enjoyed the article and it’s made you think about doing something you enjoy again. If you wanted to see more about Sindy, Facebook and Instagram are great. I have my own doll account on Instagram now and there are some really lovely people that share their dolls. 😁😁
We have so much to deal with when suffering from RA and often other chronic illnesses as well 😥. I have to use a mini tripod and clicker to take photos now but I’m not giving in!
why a lovely post thank you for sharing ! I too was a Sindy girl! I am a trained chef and now bake for the “oldies” in our little cul de sac. They want scones next to go with the jam my hubby has been making!
I love this! I'm a bit late to the party but just wanted so say how lovely it is to see your collection & reminding me of the ones I had. I was born in 1960 so the perfect age when these dolls were released. Obviously I had Sindy, & her little sister Patch too. Also Tressy (her hair got tangled up!) & a Barbie, sent to me from America by a cousin. I still had them all with my bigger dolls & golliwogs until we moved abroad in 2002.
Thank you Karen, just as you said in your interview this has brought back a lot of really happy memories of my childhood.
