Hello, Has anyone accidentally triggered a flare while trying to he healthy?
Because I've been feeling so good lately I decided to take things up a notch and go to the gym. Since I am vegan and don't get enough protein, a friend suggested a whey protien shake.
Long story short 1 week later, I appear to be at the beginning of a flare. I think the whey protein set it off. Any experiences?

Sounds more like you’ve overdone it by going to the gym! Suspect if it’s whey protein you would have had a reaction much sooner if it’s some sort of intolerance but if your body’s reacting to overuse of muscles and more strenuous exercise it's perfectly likely that you’re reacting to that.
That’s the trouble with feeling much better -I’ve done it so many times and been really p…….d off when I then get a big flare and have to slow down again. Really sorry you’re going through it and hope it settles soon.
I agree with others that it far more likely due to your change in activity. Anytime I overdo it, I pay for it the next day. If new to the gym, take it slowly, and build up your repetitions. If it was the whey protein you would have had issues sooner. Try and pace yourself.
Surely whey protein isn't vegan anyway? I believe it comes from milk. So it may be that if you have been vegan for a long time your body is objecting to the sudden introduction of a dairy product. I guess it's possible that shock to your gut could cause a flare
I go to the gym and do classes such as combat, steps and RPM. I also take whey protein 4 times a week whenever I do classes for almost 2 years now with no issues. So maybe, you need to ease into your gym routines. But again, all of us are different and our body reacts differently.
RA is an auto-immune disease. Your body is reacting to an allergen, producing an auto-antibody and this attacks your synovial tissues. So the question is 'what is the allergen (or group of allergens) that is causing your immune system to make these auto-antibodies'?
One obvious answer is that it is possible that it is in something you are consuming.
