Baracitinib

Hello again,

Can anyone help with my conundrum please? Always happens on a Friday when I can’t get hold of Rheumatology.

I stopped Baracitinib because of taking antibiotics for chest infection.

Finished those on Wed and it’s much better but I’m not 100%.

My RA is flaring and that in itself makes me feel ‘off’ so I need to get back on treatment but I’m hesitant on 2 counts.

I don’t want the infection to start up again and I’m due to fly tomorrow and conscious of being around lots of people and potentially catching something else because I’ve restarted it too soon.

Thank in advance

Once I am off baritcitnib I go straight back on as I don't want the drug out the system too long so that my RA flares don't start doing payback. It is a personal choice . My RA consultant said to me that if the chest infection goes on for a longer period restart. Now that is for my medical history/

I assume you were just told come off whilst on antibiotics and restart when done.

Thanks Deeb, yes just told to come off whilst on antibiotics. It’s more the flying that’s stalling me, all those people in a small place!!!

Tricky. I have restarted Bari before fully well but after antibiotics. You can always stop again. I’ve done that too. After Covid I kept thinking I was better enough to restart and kept find I wasn’t!

Thanks mad. It’s a real balancing act isn’t it.

I’m giving it another day and crossing my fingers!

It's riskier at the airport as the planes are air conditioned. But only slightly riskier than going shopping. I would be more worried about a flare.

Now you have fished antibiotics you need to restart your meds, otherwise you will brobaly find your RA kicks off, thsts what happened tome. If your flying wear a mask on the aircraft you won't regret it.

I was told by consultant that Baricitinib is out of the system after three days so I presume it takes three days to restart?

I had pneumonia recently and was told after antibiotics to just start again.

It is always a juggling act isn’t it? But you should be proud that you are brave enough to venture out there. Have a great time ☘️

Make sure then, that you wear a mask and frequently use hand gel on your travels.

Thanks all for the advice. I decided to restart Baracitinib last night because I’m struggling.

I always wiped trays etc on the plane with anti bac wipes and am careful what I touch. I do the same on hol with remotes, handles, switches etc.

Hopefully I’ll avoid another infection at least until I’m home!
