rash on palms and sides of feet

UPDATE: wasnt able to see a GP last week and feeling sorry for myself over rash progression šŸ˜¢ Iā€™m thinking this is palmoplantar pustulosis although I do have itchy rash on my scalp and random spots on body GP NEXT WEEK!!

over the past few days I have developed a rash on my palms and sides of feet. It consists of raised pinprick dots and small blisters. I notice more each day. Itā€™s not painful but is uncomfortable and my hands are stiff but still functional.

donā€™t worry Iā€™ll make an appointment with the GP next week but was wondering if anyone recognises this and has any tips for self care while I wait to see the dr.

I have RA and wondered if this is another fun side effect?

It looks to me like it may be Pompholyx eczema. You could try going to a local pharmacy for advice whilst waiting for a GP appointment. Steroid cream you can buy over the counter may be of some use but ask the pharmacist first. nhs.uk/conditions/pompholyx/

Any other symptoms? Sore throat ? Hand foot and mouth viral infection looks a bit like that too.

Thanks. No sore throat or ulcers so I donā€™t think itā€™s that.

I was going to say pompholyx too, as I suspect you are too old to get hand foot and mouth!

The new covid variant comes with a rash on hands and feet. Perhaps as it is the weekend a covid test might be useful? Definitely see the doc when you are able šŸ€

This looks exactly like the rashes I used to get on hands and feet before eventually being diagnosed with and treated for psoriatic arthritis. The patches would join together and form into what I can best describe as ā€˜dry blistersā€™, then the skin would break and peel. Sometimes itchy, sometimes not.

The psoriasis preceded the joint pain by several years, and in the meantime, I was tried on all manner of skin creams which didnā€™t really help. It was only after the joint pain kicked in and I eventually got the PsA diagnosis and was put on DMARDs that it cleared up (first methotrexate, now on Sulfasalazine.)

You donā€™t say what RA treatment you are on, if any, so probably worth checking this with rheumatology. In the meantime, emollients like Cetraben might help a bit. Also have a Google of Palmoplantar Psoriasis - but be warned, some of the images are quite extreme! Good luck.

Thanks. I did worry about this. Not sure if you can get RA and PsA but probably ā˜¹ļø. Iā€™m on Amgevita (biologics) and hydroxychloroquine and my RA is fairly well controlled.

I have these on my feet which sometimes itch like crazy. My Consultant was not concerned at all, saying my medications are probably the cause & seeing that my meds, Methotrexate & Rituximab are working beautifully, Iā€™m just so thankful thatā€™s the only problem šŸ˜

I have palmar-plantar psoriasis which developedmany years ago in a stress situation in 1966 but comes and goes nowadays. keeping it moisturised helps, Cetraben or Egyptian miracle cream which is olive oil, honey veg mix. If yours cracks when dry, and / or flakes then it seems more like p-p psoriasis. Best of luck!

I get a similar rash on my feet ā€¦ normally preceded by an itch / sting like sensation that wakes me up. I found 1 % hydrocortisone cream that you can buy over the counter clears it up in no time . I have psoriatic arthritis.

Thank you. The pharmacist recommended calamine to calm it but hopefully Iā€™ll get to the docs next week to get something stronger šŸ¤ž

Have you started a new medication within the last six months? Could be a reaction.

Hi. How long have you been on Amgevita? I developed paradoxical psoriasis after 4 weeks of being on Amgevita. It mainly affected my feet but I had a bit on my wrists too and legs. It looked similar to your photo but much worse. It started off as red pinprick spots and pustules on the sides of my feet initially which spread and my feet started peeling. I was told it can happen with Amgevita but is quite rare. I use a steroid cream now and was taken off the biologic. I would speak to your rheumatologist.

Thanks! Iā€™ve been on it for nearly 2 years with no problems but I will speak to my rheumy about it. What did they replace the Amgevita with?

I have just started Abatacept injections so crossing my fingers. It was a shame about the Amgevita as I was starting to feel better on it. It was quite a while before the psoriasis was properly identified and treated as I had to be referred to dermatology, during which time it got significantly worse but the rheumy took me off Amgevita immediately. The psoriasis hasn't gone completely but I can keep it much more under control now. Good luck, I hope you get some answers soon x
