Well finally had my Pip review 1 year after sending the review form back. Apparently my mobility problems are cured as they now say I'm not eligible for it now. Mmm a progressive disease gets better. Now waiting for the mandatory reconsideration to take place. The telephone review was on May 26th got reply in June and phone 2 days later to ask for reconsideration , now had a text to say they will.look at it on the 27th of July. Anybody else had success from a reconsideration?

Hi, my husband finally got word from DWP after 2 knockbacks in cutting his PIP down considerably, was refused twice by letter so went onto tribunal, finally they reinstated it a few weeks ago, we did get a letter from his GP and I also wrote a long letter regarding his health which is at the moment at an all time low, it’s awful that you have to go through all this, he is 70, we thought he had it for longer till the dreaded letter came in with a phone review. Get as much evidence as you can and don’t give up. Good luck

Hi Lizard28, I thought that if you reached 70 and were Already on PIP you could continue to receive it if you were entitled before retirement. Especially the mobility part. I was told my mobility was fine but I have a replacement knee ,visual impairment, plus other issues that reduce my mobility. Please appeal this decision as Attendance Allowance as no mobility component mobility difficulties are just put down to old age. Mobility costs are much dearer when over retirement as you may have to use taxis to get to important appointments . Most public transport is not built for disabled along with most homes . We do not get better as we get older but do not have to go to work fortunately. Good Luck

Hello Chrissycl Yes, this unfortunately is very common. The mandatory reconsideration is a hoop you have to go through unfortunately. It wasn't long before they corrected their ridiculous mistake, wasting yet more money. Keep your cool!

Did you not ask for the review to be done in paper format? That way you can put all the information down on how your disability affects you.

I would have thought it was far too difficult to convey all the information over the phone and easier for them to stop you giving that information.

Yes I had a form ,more like a mini booklet to fill in which I did over a year ago, it has taken them that long to arrange a phone appointment I wasn't given the option of a paper one.

Sorry, I misunderstood your post. If possible, it’s advisable to record any phone call from the DWP.

You’ve done the right thing by proceeding with reconsideration and eventually appeal. The chances are they’ll accept your application before even getting to appeal.

Hi. I had to appeal last time. It took ages to write. I'm not sure how you would go about it as it seems yours was verbal. I took each point that they gave me that was incorrect (lied) and went through it again expanding on my original form. It took me a few days as it was exhausting. I also included a copy of the complaint I made about the person who did my review. There is/was a time pressure to get the appeal in. If you want to message me personally I'm more than happy to expand and give you details of my appeal.

Oh by the way I was successful.

Good luck. I feel for you. Its unpleasant but please please appeal.

I know recent doctors and specialists reports count alot and I believe that did for me very recently. Some horrible person phoned them and told them I walked 7-10 miles twice a week which is impossible. I had to reapply n was shocked it worked in my favour. I think different people look at your claim.some can be very considerate

Hi Chrissy,

I asked for the assessors report before asking for mandatory reconsideration. There were lots of discrepancies in it and I had some points taken away from me, plus some added. I rang to say I wanted a mandatory reconsideration and they went through the points I didn’t agree with. I then said I would be sending in a letter with more information and why I disagreed with the certain points. I had my lost points reinstated which together with my new points took me to a different level. Previously I didn’t know that you could ask for a copy of the assessors report.

Good luck xx

Thank you I did mine over the phone and now have a letter to send in, never thought too ask for asserssors report, thank you

A face to face appointment at your local Citizens Advice can and will help.

How I wish I could have a face to face at our Citizens Advice, Our Council knocked down the building they was in ,but hasn't yet given them a new place. I did find them helpful when originally filling the first firm,

I agree with you Ajay. With the report you can challenge what you disagree with and point out inconsistencies. I feel they should make it common knowledge that you can ask for the report.

Chrissy if I were you I would ask to put the mandatory reconsideration on hold until you get the assessors report and then go through each point to understand why you didn’t get them xx

Thank you

Not with a MR no, they generally just agree with the previous decision. I had to fight for my PIP after my first review (I had been magically cured of all symptoms/ effects).

Stand your ground and fight them. Benefits and Work are worth joining for support and info. I would also join Fightback if you need to take things further…

I’ve just had the same happen to me. Apparently my mobility problems are cured as well and my car needs to go back. Devastated as it’s the only way I can get to hospital etc as I’m not even on a bus route.
