Hi, does anyone experience thumb twitching? My joint at the base of my thumb has started to twitch randomly. Not sure if it’s an RA thing or something else, so will contact my dr, but interested to see if anyone has something similar?
Thumb joint twitching : Hi, does anyone experience... - NRAS
Thumb joint twitching
To add to this, I wrote on here recently that sometimes when I’m holding cutlery or cutting with a knife, suddenly the knife/fork will fall dramatically out of my hand without warning. Not sure if this is linked.
I found when my RA was in its infancy that I randomly threw cutlery and pens and stuff without warning seemed to be like a spasm/jerk I couldn’t control it. Seems to have settled down a bit but can get it sometimes for no reason. I was able to work at that point and I think doing repetitive tasks at work made it worse. No one ever got near me in the kitchen lol. Mention it to your team as it might be RA related.
Are you taking any medication that can cause this? I had this, and the muscle twitching, start in my early 20s. It was quite pronounced and affected sleep, ability to grip. I saw a neurologist who diagnosed me with dystonia and said it was caused by medication I was taking and it would stop when I stopped the medication. It didn't, but it did get a lot better over time. I have been left with a weak right hand though.
Fasciculations or muscle twitching is very common in the general population - rarely sinister or worth bothering a doctor for - unless widespread or doesn’t ease up.
I’m under neurology due to severe cervical disc disease and peripheral neuropathy of Sjögren’s. The base of my thumb went through a twitching stage too and ny neurologist could actually feel it. I can’t recall the reason she gave but basically it’s usually benign. In my case I think it’s part of my overlap connective tissue disease and only occurs when it’s very active or when I’m extremely tired. I can get them randomly anywhere in my body.
I’m hypermobile and have scoliosis so possibly related - not sure. Also I’m hypothyroid which, when under treated can cause these I believe.
I had random twitches or flicks as I called them. At one point I thought it was because I was trying to do to much getting stressed. It's was as if my hand and fingers short circuited just for a split second It eased of after I started taking creatine monohydrate, I've been experimenting with different vitamins and proteins . I haven't had a twitch for a month now, where as before it was several times a day.
Happens the same with me..My doc says its artrosis sorry dont know word in inglish
Never heard of thumb twitching with RD
I started getting thumb twitching in my left thumb a few months ago. On and off but once I get it, it usually stays for a few days before it disappears again. I saw the Rheumatologist last week but we had more pressing issues to discuss. It’s on my notes to discuss at my next meeting in 2 months. I’ll see if I get anywhere with it
Thank you everyone!
