Sorry folks me again. My right buttock, hip, knee, all my leg actually is so painful. I'm back to not sleeping even after co-drydamol, gabapentin and morphine last night.I can feel a swelling in my buttock and finding it quite hard to walk. I'm not standing as straight as I was either my body wants to lean forward and it hurts to try to stand straight but I do manage it slowly.
Anyone had this please with their spine fractures.

You don’t say when you had a spinal fracture but sounds like you need to see a medic as soon as possible. If your leg is painful and you have a swelling at the top of it you need to be seen to get cellulitis or a DVT excluded. May be nothing - just a consequence of your fracture healing but if it was my leg I wouldn’t leave it. Good luck and hope you feel much better soon.
Hi Haz. I agree with Amnesiac. You need to see someone asap. Have you tried 111? I had wedge compression fractures to T4 and T5 a few years ago but didn't experience anything like that. It really needs looking at. Good luck.
Leaning forward does seem to ease standing when you have fractured a vertebrae.
But have you seen a physiotherapist yet? My physio was of great help when I fractured T11/12….he got new Xrays & treated accordingly.
Do ask whoever is looking after you to refer you…or you can find a self referral form to your local hospital on line….don’t just hope it will get better.
Hi Aged. No doc told me not to do any excersices yet. I don't think it's cellulitis or DVT as per other replies(which I'm still grateful for as I checked what they suggested online) no redness or anything. Leg has a cold feeling but not to the touch. I'm seeing my Rheumatologist on Tuesday so unless it gets even worse I'll talk to her about it. She's the only one who listens to me. The others just want to pile more pills in me without even seeing me. By the way I rang about the Dexa scan and asked for a cancellation and I had it done yesterday! So hopefully I'll know about that on Tuesday too as well as the vitamins blood test. Maybe I have a nerve trapped. That's my gut feeling at the mo. Like my gut told me id damaged my spine somehow. Just wondered if others had had the same. X
That’s great you got the scan.,,,let’s hope it reveals all’s well.
Thankfully my rheumy is not a pill pusher…..I do not react well to lots of pills…..would rather suck it up until I know the whole picture.
Funnily enough …as I also have problems with vertebrae at C4/5……I get cold feelings in my arms..but when touched they don’t feel cold.I’m told that’s normal…😩…so as long as I’m not in agony I go with the flow.
I had pain like that and it was Shingles so could be that, it was so bad I was admitted to hospital via A&E for pain relief. So watch for a rash. I've also trapped a vertebra in my neck and lost all movement in my left hand that was weird but it never hurt at all. I sympathise but do really think you should call 111 who can arrange for you to be seen by a GP quickly. You might try a cold compress that might help or Deep Freeze spray that might be helpful or as I use a bag of frozen peas. Thats worth a go and I hope you get some relief very soon.
Sounds like nerve root pressure to me from my personal experience. The swelling may be due to the muscle bunching up (mine did in my buttock and lumbar region when the sciatic nerve was compressed and VERY painful). The main thing I found that helped was stretching forwards - touching my toes(mid calf to start with) - relieved the pain somewhat. Plus heat on the lower back (a hot water bottle, not too hot and well wrapped) and gentle massage from my partner to relieve the spasm in the muscles.
Eventually (six months of severe pain using all the techniques I had learned to manage pain for Rheumatoid Disease...) I had an injection of local anaesthetic and steroid into where the L5 comes out of the spine as the MRI showed compression at that point (and several other areas but not as bad). I had to arrange that privately (cashed in Premium Bonds) as the wait for NHS was 3-4 years. That numbed everything for a bit and relieved the sciatic pain (hurray) and I was able to do the daily exercises from Royal Osteoporis Society and the physio. The osteopath has been stretching my spine every month since with considerable relief. But it still hurts...and I walk bent forward with a walker to support me, stopping to touch my toes to relieve the spinal stenosis I have also got.
Aw thank you Oldtimer! Yes I think that's what it is from your description. It is very painful as you say. Especially first thing in the morning, or when I've had a lie down and if I sit for more than 20 minutes . It has me in tears. (Crying a lot lately and that's not like me). Seeing my Rheumatologist on Tuesday, she's the one that sorted my spine x-rays when noone else bothered. I ask her if I can do stretching now with a T9 fracture as I was told not to. Just one thing after another with me for the past 6 months. 😐
