Started on 10mg of amitripteline for pain in night a few weeks ago. Most days I have a terrible taste in my mouth: sweet and bitter. Makes food taste awful. Anyone else had this??

Horrible taste - amitripteline..?
Hi Drumcat, Never taken that medication but I’m taking long term antibiotics which make tea and coffee taste like envelope glue. 😝 Fortunately, that’s about all the abx have changed, taste wise for drinks, and nothing re food, but I can sometimes get a bitter taste even when not eating. I am drinking more water and also with low cal Tesco high juice orange cordial to try counter it. Mine isn’t as bad as yours sounds and I hope you can try mask the unpleasant taste. I know taste impairment is common with the type of med you are taking. 😑🤨
I take amitriptyline and haven’t had that happen. Have a look at the information leaflet to see if it’s a known side effect. It might be something that goes away the longer you’re on it but speak to your doctors if you’re worried.
it could be making your mouth very dry - a known side effect. When our mouths are dry the bacteria multiply but also the chemistry of the saliva is altered meaning everything tastes different or bad.
yes I do but I get dry mouth with every tablet I take, it’s horrible &!I can’t taste anything 😡
It gave me a dry mouth, which is a common side effect. That could affect taste.
But it might be unrelated.
All it gave me was hullicination s and long term tinnitus.
I know this might sound mad but if you hold your nose can you still taste it ? As i had similar but it was a burst nasal polyp and GP gave me spray which dried it up and weird taste stopped. I actually could not taste it as it was a smell dripping down. Very strange though.
i recently tried amitriptyline for my body aches, I also had an awful taste in my mouth, the meds made me feel dizzy, sleepy, and nauseous. My dr instructed me to stop taking it.
