Sour taste

In the last few weeks I've been experiencing a sour taste in my mouth within an hour or so after eating a meal. If makes no difference what food I eat, it still happens. I'm seeing my RA Dr. in a couple weeks so I'll be talking to him about it, but I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this.

Hi - I’ve had a sour taste ever since RA started. It turned out to be a feature of Sjögren’s in my case. But there are many medications that can make it more noticeable for me such as zopiclone and Methotrexate. In my case it’s part of a very widespread neuropathy in my small nerve fibres. I do hope it’s not the same for you and stops soon.

This is a new thing for me as I was diagnosed in January 2016 & have never had an issue like this come up. I hope that it's temporary!!

As twitchy says, many drugs can mess with your taste buds. Have you started a new drug recently?

If not,the thing that dies it for me is dental problems...usually a sign that my gums are getting a bit inflammed. Have you had a dental check up recently?

I'm not taking any new drugs so I wouldn't think that's the cause. I haven't been to the dentist in about 9 months because it's so expensive & there are too many other expenses. If things don't improve though I'll be making a dentist appt. Thanks!

If you’re not already taking a stomach protect then you might want to consider silent reflux as a contender - which is usually detected by an ENT surgeon or even a dentist if your throat is very red or you have other signs of acid coming back up the way.

If so a medication such as Ranitidine or a PPI drug such as Omaprazole would help.

That's not the problem as I had an esophageal scope done by my GI Dr.last fall & it was normal. I also do take Ranitidine already. We'll see how things go & what my rheum. has to say. Thanks!

Hi Sus89. For the last 6 months I have suffered with this too. I buy mints so something to get some relief. It might sound daft, but sometimes my sense of smell doesn’t seem right either. Usually love the smell of onions frying but now hate it, this is just an example. Sorry I have no answer for it other than perhaps it’s just another symptom of this horrible disease.

Going to see the Rheumy in October, hope she has some answers xxx

IVE HAD of issues with my sense of smell since RA in fact it was one of the first symptoms but I didn’t know it. Either very sensitive to smells or smelling weird things. I was really worried as I thought I must have a brain tumour or something neurological going on, but it can happen with autoimmune diseases apparently.

My sense of smell is very perceptive, I smell things long before others do.
