Likewise I have had to stop all the regular donations to charities due to the Cost of Living and Energy increases so I also use Amazon Smile when I purchase from Amazon so that I am at least doing something.

At least we all know that the work that RA team does it is on our behalf. They do a good job too as they manage to run our site as well and they are always at the end of a phone if we need it,.xxxxx

ooh never seen it before. Will look out for that. Always feel a twinge of guilt buying from Amazon. This might help ease that !

Thank you for making us aware of this.

Unfortunately, I would not consider donating to NRAS on its present performance. In my opinion, it does very little to support the interests of those with RA. Other charities (eg Osteoporosis Society) have actually taken the NHS/government to the European court when they refused adequate drugs to sufferers. However, NRAS just toes the line in forcing drugs such as Methotrexate on sufferers.

I also consider its marshalling of this site to be absolutely appalling compared with the services on other parts of Health Unlocked - and I have been on quite a few and notified Health Unlocked of my views.

May i ask why your on this site then if you feel lik that.

I wanted to address your comments above as there is a considerable amount of work that NRAS does on behalf of the RA and JIA community which you appear to be unaware of as this is not always something we post about on HealthUnlocked but we cover in our Members' NewsRheum magazine and enews bulletins as well as on our website nras.org.uk.

Looking back on recent times below are just some of the activities we've been involved and led on, which have benefited the entire RA and JIA community for which we have to raise every single penny ourselves as the society receives not statutory/Government funding-

Previous work

-Successful 3 year campaign to get access to advanced therapies for those with active 'moderate' disease potentially benefiting 25000 people living with RA in the UK.

-NRAS is the ONLY rheumatology patient organisation that contributes to all NICE technology appraisals, guidelines and guidance meetings which has resulted in all the current RA and JIA medicines being available via NHS and quality standards of care reflecting the needs of those with IA.

-Successful 4 year campaign to have a pediatric rheumatology department commissioned in Wales

-Worked with NHS in devising resources for patients and clinicians on biosimilar switching

-Developed resources for employers and recruiters to help them understand IA.

-Launched a unique supported self-management online RA education modules (SMILE-RA)

What we're currently involved in on your behalf:

-Disability Benefits Consortium - working collaboratively with other long term conditions charities to lobby government on benefit issues

-Free Prescriptions Alliance - working with a number of other health charities lobbying government to review the list of conditions eligible for free prescriptions in England

- collaborating with other patient organisations regarding the Evusheld NICE technology appraisal due in March 2023

-We are working with NHSE - Best MSK

- Disseminating all the latest information on COVID and Flu vaccines via website and social media etc.

-Freely provide resources/booklets/ information and support on all aspects of living with RA and JIA

This is not a comprehensive list of our information, support, advocacy and policy work but just gives you a flavour of the breadth of work that the society does with the limited resources and funding at our disposal.

Finally - the monitoring of this online community ensures it is kept as a safe space for all users and that information shared is evidenced based and reliable. Unfortunately what perhaps is not evident is the amount of damaging, dangerous or spam posts that are removed and dealt with behind the scenes ensuring that everyone can use this community secure in the knowledge that it is not being infiltrated by scammers or people/organisations with hidden agendas to promote misinformation etc.

Thank you to everyone who supports the work of NRAS in whatever way they can every little bit helps and is put to good use on your behalf.

I’ve been donating to NRAS through smile.amazon.co.uk for the last couple of years. We buy a lot through Amazon as we live out in the sticks and it’s surprising how the the amount adds up. It’s totally free so it’s a great way to donate.

I use Amazon Smile too but at the moment I’m donating to The David Nott Foundation. David Nott is a British surgeon who worked in Syria under what must have been almost unbearable conditions during their war. He has written a book about his experiences and the conditions in Syria were beyond awful it was just breathtaking. breathtaking.

There is a story in his book about how after he returned he was sitting next to the Queen at a lunch and she asked him about his experiences, he couldn’t even talk about it and he started to cry, the Queen realising how traumatised he was by it signalled to a footman who brought her a silver box containing dog biscuits and they just sat and fed the corgis under the table. It brought tears to my eyes when I read about it in his book and it brings tears to my eyes even typing this.

They are the only charity to work alongside surgeons at the frontline including places such as Ukraine providing cutting-edge training to medical professionals – when and where they need it most.

The foundation is a tiny charity that is dedicated to delivering the specialist training that surgeons need to save lives in countries affected by conflict and catastrophe.
