my doctor's surgery are offering to give the covid vaccine and the flu vaccine at the same time, is this a good idea ? Can I ask for them to be done separately? Would appreciate peoples views.
Covid plus flu jab at the same time?: my doctor's... - NRAS
Covid plus flu jab at the same time?
If I recall I think I was told to wait a minimum of a week after I had my flu jab before I had my covid jab.
Yes I was going to say the same. Minimum a week and if you are on infusions then time it so it is in the middle space between your infusion dates. I think it’s best not to over load your system when you are on any kind of immune suppressants.
Had them together last autumn, one in each arm. No side effects.
Happy to have them together as meant less of a pause for RA drugs as was advised to have a gap to help vaccine have full effectiveness.
I think most people think the best way out of this dilemma is to book your Influenza vaccination at Boots or any local pharmacy that does these jabs…then just have the Covid booster at your GP.
That would seem to makes things run smoothly, without the practice having to discuss the subject over & over with every patient who asks if they can have their jabs at different times.
Because when you think about it…the nurses who do the jabs have their regular tasks…like seeing RA patients as well as doing the vaccinations.
Our drs told us to wait a month between the shots. Rheumatologist said to not take Humira 2 weeks before or after Covid shot which meant I missed 2 doses. No restrictions for the flu. Husband bone marrow transplant dr said the same about waiting a month between the shots. The reasoning for this is to make sure we get the full protection from the Covid shot. We have already received Moderna 2 vaccines 1 booster and this will be our 2nd booster. Waiting for Moderna omicron variant to be released for the booster in the USA.
I got mine together last year also one in each arm don’t recall any side effects. I do remember asking nurse if it was fine and her saying yes it’s going into both arms.
I had mine together last year. Just minor side affects, didn’t last long.
I am getting a lot of mixed responses, all to be considered , pleased it worked out well for you thanks
I had mine both together last year. One in each arm. No problems. I can’t imagine they’d do it if it wasn’t right.
No not a good idea , I had covid jab , and antibiotics for infection , felt I’ll . Know your own body and how you feel 👍
There was a study done last autumn and the results published in the lancet looking at co-administration of covid and flu vaccines which showed there were no problems in either side affects or efficacy of the vaccines. thelancet.com/journals/lanr...
I've always been told no as its a double whammy on our bodies, same taking my humira or mtx same day. If you have a reaction they won't know which caused it. Xx
I had my flu jab at the same time as my Covid booster last year with no ill effects. I skip my methotrexate injection to allow my im my system to ‘take up’ the vaccines.
Hi thinkhappy,
There is new evidence and guidance that suggest that for many co-administration of the influenza and COVID-19 jabs is acceptable. Check out page 36-37 of the Greenbook of COVID vaccinations (chapter 14a) for more detail.
It can be accessed via the following address: assets.publishing.service.g...
