Aspirin/cough med while taking methotrexate

I'll be calling Dr later, but now they're not open yet. My rhuematologist once said I shouldn't take aspirin while on methotrexate, but if I had to, I could take one. Same question for cough medicine.

I tried to get some cough medicine from the pharmacist but he refused when I told him I was on methotrexate, and told me to ask the GP( it was out of hours 🙄) Sorry I can't answer your question about aspirin as I can't take it anyway.

That is interesting MaadBunny. I am taking methotrexate and have been prescribed aspirin once a day. This is because I had a heart attack four years ago ! i have sera negative arthritis and this in all probability was the cause. Will check this out but haven’t had any adverse reactions. Keep up with the whisky. My mum had a small whisky every night and lived to a ripe old age of 100.

Ask your pharmacist

I was told not to use aspirin on methotrexate. I always use warmed solid honey as cough medicine, always have done as my great uncle kept bees. You can add a little warm water, or whisky and lemon if you want to get a good sleep too! I don't like whisky bought bourbon seems to work fine too.

When I had a chest infection the gp said I could take benylyn non drowsy for chesty coughs, but, only that one if really needed, when I went to buy some more at a tesco pharmacy they didn't have that one, the pharmacist suggested another benylyn & when I explained I was on methotrexate she said that no I couldn't take it, the pharmacist should be able to advise

I tend to use Potatos' ideas for a cough - hot water , honey and lemon, with maybe a shot of whisky at bedtime. A GP once suggested Bronchostop . Doesn't taste great but it does seem to help.

I was prescribed very strong cough med, so it's ok to use with mtx. I stopped taking mtx for a week so I could feel better.

And I haven't taken it since. I cannot stomach another pill in jello. Was denied liquid mtx by insurance company. What can Dr say to get insurance company to approve cost. I can't take pills. Some people really do have that problem (with their throat I guess)
