Does anyone else have problems when ordering a repeat prescription!!! Please can I order my painkillers...... hmmm you only had some 6 weeks ago and it looks like the computer says no... So what should I do when this incurable disease of mine protests and refuses to let my joints move? You need to speak to a doctor. OK tell the doctor to ring me asap. Oh hello doctor the computer / receptionist with a medical degree says I have had too many painkillers and refuses to give me any...... There you go all done I've sent it to your chemist, anything else I can do for you....

No 🤞I’ve never had any problem. I wonder if it is something where you need to speak to someone after a certain length of time before more can be authorised rather than dishing out painkillers without finding out how you are. Lucky you being given two lots though - I’ve never had that. When my mother was dying some years ago and I stayed longer than I had pills for I visited my brothers GP in Glasgow and was given three months worth of pills etc at the one time - I couldn’t believe it, I certainly don’t get that down here.
My GP practice only allows one mo this supply at a time no 3months supply partly as too many scripts going out not used bulky others but also at my GPs they do check the amount I take is correctly stated so if I have reduced or increased they get it signed off. So might be admin issue or need a GP chat to get how many per day you need 🤪
My GP knows I don't take them as prescribed I only use them when I need to. She issues a months worth but will know it's been 6 or 7 weeks since I last had any. This weeks grand total is 4 tablets, other weeks I can take 2 a day so she said she would leave the amount on the prescription as it was. I think it's just the receptionists fault for not reading my request correctly, I have to add them on in a message as they aren't on my repeats. They are after all in charge as they know more than the doctors 😂
I had a problem with ordering my methotrexate. Allowed me to all have my other medication including Folic acid but wouldn't give my methotrexate. It's so annoying.
It’s the computers isn’t it getting all mixed up . They usually automatically send every 2 months or 8 weeks . The Staff are not allowed to use their brains anymore I preferred the “ Old school”
It's a safety mechanism to make sure that you don't have drugs that can be addictive in some people repeated by an unqualified person sooner than specified by the doctor. Be pleased, not irritated, that safeguards are in place. Fortunately in my surgery they have now got round the problem by having a pharmacist to whom you can speak, explain that you are having a flare and need an early repeat of the pain medication.
Hello Bootoo, glad I am not alone on this . I actually found out that painkillers on when needed prescriptions are the problem, or controlled drugs . The problem is the computer as you suspect, as I take Tramadol I have to be reveiwed regularly . Its a pain pardon the pun if you are in pain and can't get the prescription. Glad to hear you got two lots thats more waste according to computer logistics. Bah humbug , enjoy your day painfree I hope.
Oh yeah I get it. Been there and got the t-shirt. I remember pre covid I was on fentanyl patches lowest dose and ordered them every six weeks instead of four but GP insisted that I had to see them every month or no prescription. I realise it’s a controlled drug and never at any point did I become hooked on it. Then finally I saw a doc who understood how much pain I was in and looked at my records and we came to an agreement that they were absolutely necessary and then put it in place for repeat prescriptions with a written request online from me. I’m going to have to go back on them next week and have a rare F2F with a new GP at the practice so wish me luck I haven’t had them for almost a year. 🤞
I order mine every three months together with my wifes (AF,COPD,Thyroid). We don't have any problems with the prescriptions. As for Prednislone, I currently ave a maintenance dose of 5mg per day but can, if necessary, up the dosage to 30mg per day if I have a flare then taper it down again to 5mg.
Mine are on monthly repeat, with the next due date given alongside each med & quantity prescribed so as long as you don't try to reorder more than a week before the due date all is well. It works fine as long as you take the prescribed amount of course. As you take yours as needed then what should be worded on your repeat is “as required” & then a specified minimum dose interval. That way you should have no problems if on repeat. Acute meds aren’t so easy to order on repeat.
Hiya , I feel your pain. Pardon the pun. My GP’s surgery’s the same. Like you I had to make an appointment. I found out it was the Less qualified health assistant (Receptionist) that was going through patients records taking out pain relief that patients were taking. After being on them for a while. Then we have to ring up and order again. I was livid like you. Hopefully we won’t have any more problems.
I have some medication not on repeat and have to put as a message on the web based request. I don't order any other medication on the request as they never read the message.
I try to order regularly but sometimes brain fog or pain delay me, this eats into my 10 day supply and when I try to catch up again they query why I have ordered it early, my GP knows but any other GP doesn't read my notes or know my condition, they just do a script or not do it and fail to tell me, I find out when I go to the chemist to collect it.
The reason for my 10 day supply is to cover the long bank holidays, 4 days, as it takes 3 days to produce a script and another 3 days to issue one not done 3+4+3 =10 days. I shouldn't have to do it but if I don't then it is yet another thing that goes wrong and I have enough problems with script screw ups as it is.
