Hi all. Feel like I’m posting on here all the time lately. I had my appointment brought forward with the consultant, from March to friday just gone due to high inflammation markers (over double the highest they’ve been previously). I’ve been put onto Sulfasalazine (which I still can’t pronounce) and also a review in 6 months to look at increasing my MTX dose to 10 tablets a week. My question is, does anyone have any remedies for sickness. I have had a morning sickness kind of feeling since I’ve been on this new medication.
On a side note, I have my PIP assessment tomorrow morning. Feeling quite nervous. I really hope I get it. I’m either struggling with my work load, or struggling financially because I’m off work sick

I found the sulphasalazine caused less nausea if I took it after a meal, hope it works for you. In general peppermint or ginger help with nausea , I keep peppermint tea bags in the cupboard, though ginger biscuits work for some folk. I think as our bodies adjust to new meds the side effects usually settle too.
Hi Pink. Just call it Sulfa! My husband used to call it Silversardines when I took it. 🤣
I didn’t have any issues with nausea on Sulfa. Once I’d got to 20mgs Mtx as a solo med, I felt a little sick and then it wasn’t working so well and my nurse said I should swap to sub cut Mtx and it stopped the nausea and worked better to control RA. That’s a long time ago, but I do recall feeling much better once on the sub cut Mtx. As Sulfa is new to you, your body may be taking time to adjust. As with morning sickness,
Could you try a ginger biscuit and a cup of tea? .. or a cup of ginger tea or peppermint tea first thing before you have anything else or take some with you to work if you are pressed for time. (I don’t drink ginger tea in any quantities to affect my blood, etc. Just now and then.) I also drink weak/dilute natural orange cordial (Tesco high juice with no added sugar) when I get nausea when on antibiotics and that helps. The refreshing, natural taste stops any antibiotic queasiness. I hope you’re going to review Sulfa before 6 months with your rheumy?
People need to post on here many times when things go out of sync for support and help. Never feel unable to ask. We’ve all been here wondering what should I do now?
Good luck with the PIP. You may feel out of sync with your tum as a result of that stress too. Hope all goes well. 🙏🏻💗
I had nausea when I started Sulpa and with each dose increase but it went after a few days although I do get it occasionally. As others have said, peppermint and ginger help as does eating little and often, preferably before I actually feel hungry, even if it's just a banana or a ginger biscuit.I always take my meds after food although, after a comment on here, I now eat the majority of a meal then swallow my tablets and then finish off with a little more food.
Sulpha added to Methotrexate and Hydroxychloroquin has been great for me ☺️
