Hi, I have just been confirmed with Covid 19, should I stop my Methotrexate medication, I am due to take it today? I have tried to get in touch with my Rheumatology team but they are not the best at getting back to you.

Thanks in advance for any advice

The general advice is to stop. Contact your team to let them know you have covid. It won’t hurt to delay a dose if they say you can take it.

I was told to stop Methotrexate when I had Covid at the end of September and then there’s a period afterwards - I think my nurse said 4 weeks - before you can go back on again. You’re just giving your immune system a chance to put up its best defence to Covid by stopping the Methotrexate. Unfortunately I went straight into a flare up that’s still with me despite going back onto my medication and being given steroids but that happens every time my medication is stopped for a week or so. Just shows it works I guess! I’d check everything with your nurse and very best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Hope your feeling better soon, I think you are in the category to receive the anti viral treatments, I would contact your gp, if the rheumatology dept don't get back to you soon, I had an email from the Nhs yesterday to say we can have this if we test positive, best wishes Sarah 💕

I stopped mine but only for a week. I didn't bother the r team because they take 2 weeks to get back. I didn't suffer any ill effects.

Sorry you have the dreaded Covid, hope you recover quickly.Didn't even know was meant to miss MTX if have Covid so thanks for the heads up.

Others have given you info about it, but wondered if an econsult to your GP is quicker to respond than RA team?

Must say my RA team are brill as getting back at least next day though usually on the day I call.

To be honest currently it is a nightmare to get through to the GP so will wait for a response from my RA team but decided against taking it as I have started to feel chesty today. Fingers crossed I don't get a flare up.

Hiya Speakers, welcome. Sorry that your first post is asking this question. Hopefully by now you've heard from your Rheumy team & received the advice you need. I hope you're not too poorly & recover quickly too.

Happy Christmas (in spite of it).
