Oooh now there's some memories . We had a sweetshop on the way to school and I used to have a penny for sweets everyday. I remember the cigarettes well. And cherry lips, floral gums , Victory V cough sweets 😁
Yes cherry lips and floral gums...those Victory V's numbed the tongue a bit when trying not to crunch them! Flying saucers and a pink spearmint hard toffee that I can't remember the name of but came in an oblong block and looked like a cellular baby blanket. Wonder if anyone remembers or knows the name?
Sweet tobacco made with coconut
Yes!
I loved that too, as well as coltsfoot rock from the chemists, or peas in the pod in my own brown bag in summer when when we called in at the greengrocers on the way home from school.
I can remember getting a twig from the chemist to chew
When my sister's and I were young, we always got our presents in a pillow case, probably easier for Santa to get down the chimney 🤗. As for sweets I remember spangles, fruit pastels, blackjacks and of course frozen jubblys. Oh and broken biscuits from Woolworths 😁
I worked on the biscuit counter at Woolies 😁🤗
You're probably too young to remember selling broken biscuits 😁
🤔 Now I'm sure I've seen your name before somewhere 🤔😀 - how are you Baz, nice to hear from you. This is like your very popular post many months ago isn't it and then as now, my favourites were the same as yours, except with the blackjacks, there were the mojos and fruit salads (and others too). 😋
Hello😁, yes I'm fine how are you, well I hope, yes that was a a similar and popular post many months ago. have you watched any Alf Garnett lately 🤔🤣 and I had corned beef for lunch today cut with a knife 🤗 lovely to here from you xx
He gets everywhere doesn't he 🤗😁
Yes, especially down Memory Lane! 😆
Just had a re read of his post. I was laughing at the comments about eating cough sweets one after the other, as I've got a cold and have been doing exactly that with a packet of menthol and eucalyptus sweets 😁🤗
Is that when he was young? If so, that's probably why he was the milk monitor and had extra milk, he probably wanted to cool his throat down!! 😆 I used to love the Winter Mixture sweets and would eat them one after the other.
Gob stoppers that changed colour and always appeared when mum and dad were going out for a bit……
I loved kali, no idea of the spelling, from the corner shop, she tipped into a little bag that came to a point, it turned our tongues and fingers multicoloured.
Pink panther candy bar 2p
Wham bar was pink. You can still buy them for 20p on Amazon
And there were bars of pink& white nougat- which you can still get .
With rice paper round the outside? Yum.
Rice paper- yum. I have been known to eat it out of the packet when I've bought it for baking 😁
I knew I wasn't the only one! I use it for the bases of coconut macaroons but have to have some put by when making them for personal use. My h thinks it's odd.
😁Yes that's what I buy it for.
Rice paper better than the nougat unless it comes from montalemar
True. I quite like the Italian nougat as well.
And the nougat with nuts and Angelica
Stop it 🤗😁I can feel a visit to the sweet shop coming on 🤣
And then we have Turkish delight …….
I can't put that on here !x lol
Oh I used to absolutely love getting a toy sweet shop at Christmas time, all the little bits to weigh out etc I was just telling my husband about that last week. I remember getting my first watch watch when I must have been about seven and the most out of character gift my mother ever bought me when I was in my teens was a blue long fur fabric cat night dress case which I absolutely loved.
And of course Space hoppers!🤶🏻🎅🏻
Mine was then Play Doh Factory, hours of fun. I was particular with keeping colours separate & putting them in the right colour pot, unlike some friends who ended up with mucky grey Play Doh. Loved the smell too. Another was a space hopper, though as was the norm I didn’t get the popular one with a face, mine had handles which were 4 tubes held together with a plate of plastic. Still, it worked the same & I had lots of fun with it.
