hi all. Looking to buy a zip and link bed. Has anyone got 2 firm zip and link mattresses on edge sprung divan bases? I get pains with my extra firm mattress on an ottoman base in my hips knees and back. I also feel every move my hubby makes due to my ‘delicate’ body.
I’m just wondering if we have the sprung bases will we roll together? Any advice appreciated. Xx
Are you sure you need a firm mattress? If you are a side sleeper it's better to have a medium or soft sprung mattress so you can keep a straight spine whilst lying on your side. I was advised by my back specialist not to buy a firm mattress and definitely not an "orthopaedic" one - he said it's a mistake many make because they think a hard bed is good for bad backs but it really isn't!
Having tried many different mattresses in the shop with the sales assistant taking note of whether my spine was straight or not, I ended up with a soft sprung mattress on a sprung divan base. My Vi-Spring Elite is now fourteen years old and still in excellent condition. I do not regret having spent a lot of money to get it all all as it's lasted well and is sooooo comfortable!
The big advantage of two mattresses zipped and linked is that you can have a different firmness in your mattress to your partner. When I was still with my husband I had soft sprung and he had medium on sprung edge divan and that suited us both perfectly. When we separated I had to get a smaller bed as a 6ft wide one would not fit in my cottage!
thanks Lolabridge. Ive always liked firm but decided to go with a medium firm for my bones sake. Yes the zip and link are more expensive but I think with what we go through we deserve a bit of comfort. X
Agree with Lolabridge. I too was advised not to have a firm (aka rock hard) mattress for my bad back years ago and I too have a Vi-Spring medium sprung base and mattress which is ten years old and still absolutely fabulously comfortable. Very expensive even all those years ago but you can’t beat a good bed particularly if you’ve got joint problems - and we spend so much time in our beds! Hope you get what you need and you surely won’t regret it 😄.

Wise lady. My Nan used to say you should get the best shoes and bed you can afford as if you're not in one you'll be in the other.
We used to have a Tempur bed that was made up of two single beds joined together. Eventually the rise and fall mechanism failed and we bought a different bed.
A few mattresses and regular bed frames later we have now bought another Tempur - it is a comfort - soft mattress - and it’s not supposed to stay cool so that you don’t overheated and I suppose that is true.
This is just one complete mattress and I don’t feel my other half moving around on it. I’ve got inflammatory arthritis, osteoporosis, serious back problems and I’m recovering from a fractured sacrum and I’m pleased and surprised to say that this bed is very comfortable. Over the years I’ve discovered the hard way that a firm bed really doesn’t help my back problems. Good luck with it - finding a comfortable bed has been one of my biggest life challenges.
We have brought two 3ft beds and they are fitted together so it looks like a ordinary bed. xxxx

I have a medium one (silentnight natural) with a goose feather topper (m&s). Really comfy. I think they do ‘half and half’ ones. Maybe take a look. It was about 1K but it’s sooo worth it. Decent ones are expensive.
