Severely immunosuppressed people given access to another booster - meaning for some, a fourth dose this winter
Thanks for posting this, I missed it. I'll be eligible in a month's time then I think. Hope it's easy to book it and not a carry on like trying to get my third vaccine. I don't think they recorded it as a third vaccine at the time, but as a booster. Hey ho, here we go again I suspect. But still, I'm impressed by the speed at which they are acting over this. Feels like the powers that be are trying to get ahead of the game this time.
Can someone tell “them” us immunosuppressed geriatrics are not pin cushions?
Thanks for posting it. Good news!
I suppose 'the Government' feel that they have to be seen to be doing something. But until we know whethera) this variant will replace the Delta one
b) how effective the vaccine is against Omicrom
c) how infectious and how serious the new variant is, etc.
it is just doing something not nothing.
Could we be helping more by vaccinating more people in countries who can't afford to buy lots of vaccines - and help to prevent more variants emerging?
That's what I think ... get more people vaccinated around the world, otherwise as soon as we open up travel, it will only be a matter of time before this whole scenario repeats itself.
I'm not sure how many vaccines have been sent to poorer countries but there has been reports that some batches were unused, logistical problems, out of date and destroyed. Such a waste.
Yep. It’s a global issue and needs to be tackled as such. Too much politics and not enough sense…
What counts as severely immunosuppressed? Was there a list?
gov.uk/government/publicati...
Full detail of announcement in link.
"Severely immunosuppressed individuals who have completed their primary course (3 doses) should be offered a booster dose with a minimum of 3 months between the third primary and booster dose. Those who have not yet received their third dose may be given the third dose now to avoid further delay. A further booster dose can be given in 3 months, in line with the clinical advice on optimal timing."
This would imply it is the same people as those eligible for third primary dose.
Ive had my third but is it cancer patients etc who would get a 4th, not RA type patients? The new novavax coming out has the new mutations accounted for , like an update, so that makes sense.
Ah just seen your list above ....
Is there anyone here with RA who hasn't had any vaccinations yet and is instead continuing to isolate for the time being?
Yes, there are some of us because of timIngs of medication that have been unable to get the boosters just yet.. which Is not good and basically means back to shielding or facing a choice of booster or getting RA under control. or maybe even not a good antibody response to the vaccine due to our medication. Some of us were not even offered the third primary dose or knew about it about recently, just depended on where you lived really. My Rheumatology department has been useless with information and I've had to research everything myself. I truly think this latest booster campaign is yet again a knee jerk reaction to this new variant but I guess good they're doing something, it will put a an already struggling NHS under immense pressure though to get this done by the end of January.
